“Note, luck reading out due to first half turn 7 dropout when luck was 56% to 39% (yeah, my crap rolls continued!!!).
The Guardians were unlucky when 3 of their 5 veteran players carrying niggling injuries pulled up sore prematch (at least 3 ones from 7 rolls) and another player running late for the game. The Wood Elf team didn't feel confident and looked scrappy in the warmup (Doom and Gloom, and Bad Habits left me with 1 RR in the first half from 5!!!)
(The last handicap was I Am The Greatest which did nothing as it was between the guy running late and a niggled player).
Hammarby IF started with the ball and used a strong wide screen up front whilst their quarterback recovered the ball from a deep kick. Two Guardian Catchers penetrated the Hammarby screen and combined to stun him and knock the ball free!
The undermanned Guardians were able to recover the ball for a quick score.
On the next drive, the Guardians caught Hammarby napping as they blitzed them on a deep kick and stole the ball for a second score.
On the following drive, the Guardians again kicked deep and put Hammarby under immense pressure all the way up the field. However, each time the Guardians were about to effect a steal, they choked and made silly errors (snake-eyes to dodge with the ball two turns running).
Hammarby capitalised on the errors and ran the ball deep, but just as they were about to score, their catcher tripped on a blade of grass (1 on the first of two GFI to score) and stunned himself!
The Guardians managed to pick up the ball and score throw a TD score after first batting it around a bit on the floor (1 to pick it up with an AG6 Thrower with no rerolls left heh) to take a commanding 3-0 lead.
It was almost 4-0 by half time as the buzzing Guardians blitzed again but knocked the loose ball into the crowd when a free TD beckoned.
In the second half, the Guardians finally started in offence with their 8 players. They pushed deep and tried to avoid the swarming Hammarby players. The Guardians set up to score but dropped an easy hand off (3+ with catch reroll) near the end zone.
A melee for the ball followed, with 13 players mobbing around the ball. Hammarby retrieved the ball, then the Guardians after losing two players (one Badly Hurting himself on a snake eyes failed dodge heh). Hammarby recovered the ball again after injuring another Guardian player to leave them with just 6 on the pitch but crucially the game clock was running down leaving Hammarby with a difficult job of scoring 3 unanswered TDs to even the score.
Eventually the Hammarby numbers were enough to effect a TD to put them on the board.
The score was enough to pump them up on their next drive on a surprise blitz as they injured a fourth Guardian player but they were unable to recover the ball to effect a late score.
-----------
A fun game against a fun coach. I had some shocking shocking rolls but had the luck blitz in the first half and my opponent's unlucky 1 on a GFI to give me two TDs that I might not have otherwise scored. Funny how the game can be won with really crappy rolls if you make the crucial ones at the right time.
Second half was just ugly heh. Nearly all our players mobbed around the ball.
But overall a great game for both of us with plenty of money and no FF loss or injury.
