It started so well. Receiving, we hauled down the only guard player of Critical Hitmen and fouled it out the game, at the expense of a sending off. A reasonable swap, I thought. With another knocked out, it was looking promising.
That's when it started to unravel. The ref - clearly bribed or on amphetamines, or both - sent off my other dirty player for my 2nd foul. BigBlockTheory took advantage of poor positioning to chain push the ball carrier into range, then duly relieved him of said ball. The scatter was great... for him. In response, I opted to hit a ball marker first, but a snake eyes (on the required go for its) incurred an immediate turnover from which I never recovered, as Critical Hitmen "piled on" the misery with a string of savage injuries.
BigBlockTheory and his team were 1-0 up, receiving, and quickly with numerical advantage just a couple of turns into the 2nd half - it looked hopeless for us. Fortunately two skeletons, Tibia and Sternum, had other ideas.
First, Tibia pulls out a miracle sacking of the ball carrier, dodging like an elf through tackle zones. BigBlockTheory regroups, but only gets the ball at the 2nd attempt and on a scatter.
By now Tombification are down to just 5 players, but Tibia and Sternum pick themselves up looking determined. Sternum, not very agile, impressively slips through a tacklezone as he gets up to put a bit of distance between himself and a killer Tomb Guardian.
Then Tibia again slips his marker to shove the ball carrier in front of the last remaining Tombification tomb guardian, who knocks send the player and ball to the floor. The ball falls at the feet of Sternum, but its still marked.
It dodges, scoops up the ball, and sprints diagonally into the empty Critical Hitmen half, stretching its bones to move out of range of a rather mean looking - and pissed off! - Blitz Ra. The Blitz Ra charges and manages to mark Sternum, who's having none of it. Sternum knocks over the opponent at the first attempt and dashes home to score a very unlikely equalizer.
Great comeback, although Critical Hitmen left several of the side in critical condition!”
