The first half saw a bribe being given to both teams, which massively benefited the Grom Hammers as they had a chainsaw. Quickly followed by a failed pick up by the elves and then a series of 1s over the next few turns resulted in the elves burning all their rerolls (3) in the first 4 turns and a catcher being mng after a failed dodge. The elves scored on their 5th turn, leaving 4 turns for the Dwarves to equalise.
A failed dwarf pick up and two chainsaw kills in back to back turns (one from a double skull - see those rerolls) and an apo fail (killed apo killed) left me thinking the game was definitely over. Some (lucky) dodges and a successful blitz prevented the score. But with the wizard and two players to the good, the momentum was with the dwarves.
A quick second half score (turn 4, half 2) after another casualty and two KOs left four turns. The Dwarves were up by three players and had that wizard snoozing on the sidelines. The kick off table rolled a perfect defence to compound the pressure on the Kestrels.
More ones plagued both teams as the elves failed another pick up and then the dwarves failed a gfi. More failure followed with a failed (rerolled) 3+ catch left star, and agility boosted, blitzer on the sidelines and things looked decidedly Dwarf-friendly, especially as the other blitzer had just been BH'd. (I was a mess by now, thought I was going to have to suffer an OT defeat)
The Dwarves though had other ideas as they picked up the ball, passed it to the open blitzer and put it within four squares of the end zone. Then they awoke the wizard from his slumber who lightning bolted the most likely sacker, but the failed armour break left a chance.
The next turn is the stuff of legends and if I had suffered this turn against I would be sick (so I can only imagine that MrOdd was disgusted) especially as the odds checker says there was a roughly 1 in 20 chance of the turn ending without failure. Needless to say it didn't.
Following the legen - wait for it - dary turn, MrOdd must have been all over the place and a big error ended up costing him. He marked two players near the ball, but then before marking those in his backfield he attempted a gfi - which failed. Leaving a chance of an improbable win. The elves made their dice (this time a one in six chance to complete them all without failure) and we were both left open mouthed (for very different reasons).
Thanks for the game MrOdd, it truly was epic.”
