“An uninspiring first game for the Goats ended in a shock draw, as the men of Norsca controlled the game but underestimated their foes late. Both Cap'n Billy and Maria were knocked out of the game early, and one of the Norsemen, a short fellow who looked more like a dwarf, threw some sort of explosive device that knocked half the team flat. (Is that even legal? The referee sent the dwarf off at halftime, but not before he had thrown several of the bombs.) the Crumble dominated the first half, stealing the ball and scoring as the clock ran out.
The second half began just as badly, with Farmer Ed badly muffing an easy block, and it looked like the Norsemen would take it, until Longhorn Sue made her presence felt. Barreling far into the Goats' end of the pitch, she was quickly surrounded by blue uniforms, but the opposing running back attempted a block while holding the ball and quickly found himself on the turf. He learned the hard way that it's not always easy to tip a cow. One-Horned Carl showed his veteran savvy, running in to grab the ball, then making the pass that he needed to complete in order to get the ball down the field in time. Hickory proved equal to the receiving task, placing the ball in her woven basket and darting down the field faster than any Norseman could.
Ed rewarded the trio with a shiny apple apiece, but it's clear that the goats will need to do more to succeed on this level. This is no longer a fight against a ragged squad of half-drunk farmhands at a carnival... this is real Blood Bowl action, and it's no longer time for clowning around. To the goats' credit, Ed himself made a couple of the most crucial mistakes, but still, this is a huge step up for thhe team, and it may be some time before they can regularly perform on this level. ”
