#1 Longhorn Sue – Broken Jaw (MNG)
We won this one easily, and while there's something to be said for the fact that we were in the Moot, facing off against a team of halflings, there's also something to be said for Farmer Ed's speech to his team. In the locker room before the game, he reminded the team of the halflings' fondness for goat stew, and roast goat, and goat sandwiches... it's not clear whether the team understood the words Ed was saying, but they heard him say "goat" a lot in an impassioned voice, so they figured it must be important.

Ed should have included a few lines about steak and hamburgers, because Longhorn Sue got her jaw broken on the first block of the game. (A cow fighting a tree -- where else can you see that but on the Blood Bowl field?) After that, though, it was mostly smooth sailing for the Goats. The halflings couldn't overpower us, so they resorted to dubious measures, like fouling and having the trees throw players across the field at goats. (A tree throwing a halfling at a goat -- where else can you see that but on the Blood Bowl field?) The goats injured a few halflings, but being hurled down the field proved even more dangerous for the stubby little men.

It's in a game like this where having Farmer Ed proved crucial. The goats could outmuscle the halflings, but being no larger than them, they didn't have the advantage that the 6'4" farmer did. Scoring a touchdown and two casualties, he took on a role as the team's pointman, and proved a dangerous force on offense and defense. Griff scored two of the three touchdowns, and Doc also registered a casualty (in addition to the halfling he knocked out if the game via a diving tackle.)

In general, the team appears to be getting better at blocking. They had been using their lower centers of gravity to upend the humans and elves they faced, but playing against a team that was just as low as them, they were forced to practice more technique. Still undefeated, the team seems poised to weather the loss of Sue next game and continue their rise up the ranks.
