Match Highlights:
The sun is beating down on a parched pitch and heatstroke is a real worry for the teams. Fortunately for the U-dogs they have a deep bench but the Cavaliers have only arrived with 11 players, something they may regret.
U-dogs to kick against a Saurus heavy lizardman line up with 6 of the big reptiles flanking a Kroxigor on the LoS. The ball land and the wall of scale covered muscle sets to work hammering the U-dog line. The goblins survive surprisingly well but the Kroxigor manages to drive Gerald to the ground before swan diving on top of the prone Troll KOing the big guy and leaving a gaping hole at the centre of the U-dogs defence. Step up Devia-natses, the U-dogs fouling specialist and the Kroxigor is off to see the team apo. Meanwhile the Saurus’ on the Cavaliers’ left flank are struggling to deal with Ber’anx – who has not moved or blocked so far in the match but has successfully injured two of the big Lizardmen, stunning one and KOing another, while defending their attacks. It is at this point the U-dogs realise that one has touched the ball yet, at least until the big handed Odd-een dodges through the Cavalier defence and sprints to pick it up, at which point he fatally trips over his own oversized mit, he is rushed to the doc , and for the third consecutive game the doc fails in his one and only duty, RIP Odd-een. Squee-lee picks up his first career kill splooshing a skink in the mid field only to see a second of the little lizards legging it down the opposite flank with the ball. A covering tackle from Laz’pler forces a throw in, which is collected by yet another stunty Lustrian to run in for the score.
A quick head count before restart reveals that a second U-dog is dead, this time it’s the rookie skaven thrower Ska’lee who is heading for the U-dog communal burial pit. Despite these losses and having had two goblins ejected from the game for fouling, the U-dogs still have the numerical advantage at the kick off because only 6 Lizardmen players take to the field, with 3 of the scalies taking an opportunity to indulge in some sun bathing instead and the remainder being banned, KOed or simply dead. So heavily outnumbered the Cavaliers are unable to prevent the U-dogs running in an equalizer before half time.
The second half play is quickly reduced to an open mall around the midfield with a fumbled ball eventually being caught on the edge of the scrum by Saurus ‘Ciclametto’ who looks to be running in for an easy score until a well aimed goblin lands on his head courtesy of Gerald’s throwing arm. Unfortunately no projectile players could prevent skink ‘Faciolo’ capitalising on the loose ball and running in to score, indeed Odeen-natses fractured his leg on landing and See-em manages to land awkwardly on top of the already prone Ber’anx and is promptly throttled by the blitzer for his impudence – RIP See-em, the final surviving goblin from the original U-dog team, gone and very soon to be forgotten.
The scores stand at 2-1 to the Cavaliers with only 2 turns remaining in the match. The heat of the sun abates as the day draws to a close and the U-dogs line up for the last gasp TTM attempt to draw the match and bring the losing streak to an end. Laz’pler catches the kick and runs the ball up to Duh-vadtsets – hand off – Gerald launches the gobbo down field and he nails the landing! Duh-vadtsets runs in unopposed to tie the game and bring the run of U-dog losses to a close.
What a match – the losing streak is at an end but at a high cost, 3 U-dogs lay dead including two of the team’s founding members.
