Timaris Stormwing considered his options of winning this game. "We've faced the Gators before", he muttered to himself. "Brute force and nasty tails is all they got", he continued. "Even so, that could well be enough to stop our ball-play", he had to admit. "But we have a wizard on our side. That has to count for something."
The Meddlers started the game receiving the ball. Hauclir picked it up and prepared for a rush. The elves hadn't received any particular instructions from their coach, who seemed to have not made up his mind as to any particular tactic. By turn 2 the Meddlers managed to push a particularly dumb fimir into the crowd, where he was eagerly welcomed by the elves' fans. Nevertheless, both Finavar and Caelir were also injured in the same turn, they even would miss the next game as well. Tails made it difficult to break through, but with some bold blocking and blitzing the Meddlers managed to create a hole in the defensive line. Hauclir broke through and seemed to be on his way to the endzone. The Gators pulled back and tried to create as many obstacles as possible, but in the end the elves pushed through and scored the 1-0 lead in turn 5.
The fimirs still had 4 turns to equalize. A failed pick-up opened up more options and Timaris decided to send his team in to apply as much pressure on the ball as possible. Next turn a lesser daemon picked it up though and ran to relative safety into a make-shift cage. "Time for that fireball of yours", Timaris winked to the sour-looking wizard he'd hired for the game. "Make that money count!", he added. Seconds later a fiery explosion hit the field, knocking over a Fianna Fimm and knocking out the lesser daemon carrying the ball. Nevertheless, the elves couldn't pick up the ball and it scattered out of reach. "Damn", Timaris cursed under his breath. "That could have gone better". The fireball did stop the Gator's momentum though. They would not manage to score the equalizer before half-time.
The second half started with only 7 elves and a treeman on the pitch facing 11 opposing players. The typical grind followed, the Meddlers unable to stop the advance. At one point Timaris sent in Aetharon for a desperate -2d blitz on the ball, but he only managed to knock himself over. Finally, the Gators scored the equalizer in turn 7, leaving two turns to the Meddlers to score the winning touchdown. Timaris quickly came up with a plan, but Boombark annihilated all remaining hope for the win when he knocked himself over.
Third draw for the Meddlers this season, third time it c(sh)ould have been a win...
