Things started off well enough today, as the Eskimos fielded their men against a snarling line of scrimmage- Hailey came out swinging, and notched his third career casualty with a murderous tiger-claw strike on Rookie Beastman Luke Boltwanger, whose life ended on the pitch in only his second game with the team.
From there, though, things went downhill. Harper Ink took a big hit to his busted kneecap not long before the kill, and the medical staff spent all game trying to get him back up to no avail. The boys from Anchorage held onto their resolve however, and #4 Catcher Jesse Tibbetts wove a near-touchdown strike that would ultimately be thwarted halfway into opposition territory.
With the team suffering casualties left and right into this strike, and the Beastmen now having grabbed hold of the ball, the life seemed to leave the team as they found themselves out-numbered and out-muscled.
An exasperated coach fivehead found the team fallen 0-1 at the half, and fielded a shorthanded nine players to the Chosen's ten. Line-of-Scrimmage Rookie #3 Xhemal Moloney took a punch in the teeth from the fierce, tattooed, figure of Valentina Baldrick, who proceeded to tear one of his limbs clean off. Still, the medical staff sat over an aching and moaning Harper Ink instead of perhaps working some conjuration magic on Moloney, who was left to watch the rest of his lifeblood leak out of his body and onto the pitch. Monday night was his eleventh and final game with the Eskimos.
The situation certainly felt dire for Eskimos fans and crew, who were looking for their first win in 3 matches. And suffice it to say, the team and coaching staff were missing the grit to get through this one. Similar to the game against Chukiciool, efforts floundered in the second half, and the field's battalion lacked the vigor needed for a sport like this one.
The Eskimos allowed another 2 touchdowns and sustained 2 more short-term injuries in the process, ones that will sideline Blitzers Casal and Hailey alongside the ailing Ink for whoever the Eskimos schedule themselves to take on next.
Coach fivehead is certainly facing some scrutiny for his handling of the team in their last sprint of matches-- one that seemed promising after the draw with the skilled Paisegas con Plumas ii. Should he leave this team to Coach Domcheck as well? He's gone into a sort of semi-retirement as his squads have not seen much action in the last couple of years. Or could Assistant Coach Kochenberger stage a sort of coup to take things under his control?
Coach fivehead declined to talk to media after the game, but word is coming in of his contracting two new players, a Halfling with the surname Mag Raith, and a veteran lineman from the Overseas Leagues, Cain Roach. Especially as the boys head into their next matchup short three positionals, it's going to be a test of grit to see if they can battle their way onto the scoreboard.”
