“Waves of Fire started strongly, brushing aside the Druchii defence to pass their way down the wings for a triumphant turn two touchdown.
The dark elves responded nervously, fumbling a simple pick-up to leave Darius Longarm under pressure. They did recover, but started the drive pinned well back in their own half.
A missed block from star Treeman Leader of the Pack gave Druchii the opening they needed, and their loose cage rolled down the weaker top flank, tieing the game towards the end of the second half.
Having failed to learn from their mistakes, Athletic started the second drive with Darius Longarm prone and the ball scattered between Waves of Fire players. Fortunately the Dark Elvish defensive skills came to the fore, and they fought back, again rolling a cage down the flank, whilst keeping the irritating leaping Wardancer Hully Gully otherwise occupied. John the Injured sprinted over the line for a turn 5 touchdown.
This tight, close game turned in the Wood Elf turn 5 when a 3 dice block went awry, the mighty Leader of the Pack somehow falling over the cowering Fabio Paim.
The Druchii players sourrounded the ball and, after much fumbling and slipping, Angry Anderson dived on the ball in the endzone for a 3-1 victory.
It could easily have finished 2-2, and Leader of the Pack was a target for the home fans booing. His enthusiasm for blocking does not yet match his ability.”
