First Match - Furies vs. Silvya Saints, away. 1-0 (W by Concession) Determined to launch their Blood Bowl careers with a storming start, the Ulthuan Furies take to the pitch away against the Silvya Saints, a Wood Elf side coached by Bareuf. The Furies' Captain Aramil Sunspear elects to receive, and what ensues is a textbook two-phase pass and hand-off for the Furies' first touchdown! After this drive, two of the Saints were recuperating in the KO box, while Aramil's blitz for the TD resulted in Saints' lineman Beppe Trave being stretchered off the field for the Badly Hurt box! The Furies set themselves for the Saints' counterattack, which ultimately failed to materialize. Saints' lineman La Vaca failed to pick up the ball, which allowed for a decisive enveloping pincer move by the Furies' defense. Left with no options, the Saints struggled to clear themselves of the suffocating defense, but Saints blitzer Hip Hop Sylvia failed a block and crumpled in a heap. The furies did not relent, positively swarming their opposition. In one last ditch attempt divert the falling hammer of the Furies' defense, Saints' blitzer Dance Sylvia attempted to dodge away from the back towards the ball but was tripped up and stretchered off to the Badly Hurt box. The Furies pounced on the ball and were off to the endzone, but Saints' coach Bareuf threw in the towel. The ref blew his whistle and awarded the concession to the Furies, who were then off to celebrate their first victory! Second Match - Furies vs. Twister of flowers, home. 1-2 (L) The Furies took to the pitch to the roar of the home crowd. What was to follow would be a brave, albeit unlucky, match against the Wood Elf side Twister of flowers coached by cultofspeed. Electing to receive, the Furies set up with a long offensive line, but a failed block by lineman Modril allowed the Twisters to take the initiative. The Twisters ripped the lid off of it, knocking out lineman Saeril and putting lineman Laziel in the Badly Hurt box. The Furies countered as best they could, scrambling to get receivers in range of the endzone while they contested possession of the ball which changed hands a number of times. Uziel was stretchered off to join Laziel, while Captain Aramil lost his cool ran a solo blitz, getting knocked over in the process and allowing the Twisters more time to reorganize. A brave connection between lineman Aeril gunning a long pass to lineman Vaygil, who caught the ball under pressure and dodged away for the score left it 1-0 Furies with little time remaining in the first half. The Twisters received the kick and made a strong offensive thrust into the Furies' half of the field. The Furies failed to mount any substantial counterattack, with lineman Endril failing a block. In the dwindling minutes of the first half, lineman Aeril knocked out lineman Cactus of the Twisters, though he would return in the second half along with Saeril of the Furies. Twisters catcher Filodendron scored a TD just as the whistle blew, so the teams enterred the second half tied at 1-1. The Twisters were a bit more cautious with their offense this time around, allowing for Furies Captain Aramil to knockout lineman Rose. A spectacular hit from Furies lineman Vaygil sent Twisters lineman Pine flying. When Pine landed ( on his head) his neck broke, and his limp form was carted off to the Serious Injury box. The Twisters launched an attack with a vengeance, sending a third Furies lineman, Modril, to the Badly Hurt box. The Furies had a chance to stop the inevitable Twisters touchdown when blitzer Violet, carrying the ball and flirting with the sideline, was blitzed with support by the Captain Aramil. However, the Captain failed in his duties once more, and the Twisters would go on to score, Violet's pass sailing into the ready hands of catcher Filodendron for his second touchdown of the match. Determined to draw the match, if not win, the Furies launched an all-out offensive, getting penetrating receivers deep into the Twisters half, and knocking out lineman Mint with a block from lineman Aeril. The Captain threw a perfect pass to wide-open lineman Xaeril, but Xaeril simply failed to catch the ball, in what would have otherwise been a certain touchdown play. A failed pickup attempt by Violet left the Furies with another chance, which was further supported by Twisters lineman Oaken being knocked out by Furies lineman Endril. The Captain broke free from the pack and charged towards the endzone, where lineman Vaygil was wide open. Again, an accurate pass was dropped, and the Twisters scrambled. Filodendron snatched up the ball and threw a pass to lineman Rosebud, who was heavily guarded. Rosebud failed under pressure and dropped the ball, leaving the Furies one last chance. Lineman Zaeril failed his block, however, and the final whistle sounded. Third Match – Furies vs. Inferiority, away. 3-1 (W) After a dismal performance, Aramil was stripped of the Captaincy, which was bestowed upon Roaril, the furies new blitzer. Under this new leadership, the Furies took the pitch against the Wood Elf side Inferiority. The Wood Elves won the toss and elected to receive, so the Furies began the match on defense. Poor ball handling by Inferiority allowed the Furies to seize the initiative, storming the opponent’s half and forcing them into making a desperate play. Furies lineman Vaygil intercepted a pass and ran it in for the TD. On the Wood Elves second attempt at an offensive drive, they were more cohesive: a block by lineman Malakai landing the Furies’ new Captain in the Badly Hurt box, and the Wood Elves scored a seemingly effortless TD to tie it. Aramil took it upon himself to rally the troops, completing a pass to lineman Endril on the Furies’ following drive for the TD. Inferiority failed to score in the dwindling minutes of the first half, leaving the game 2-1 Furies headed into the second. The beginning of the second half was marred by poor handling by both sides – the Furies managed to bring the ball into the opposition half but failed to produce. While possession was contested, Aramil claimed vengeance for Roaril, blasting Wood Elf lineman Fordor into the Badly Hurt box. About halfway through the second half, Aramil had the ball and a clear run to the end zone, but tripped up going for it and fell just short of the line. Furies lineman Laziel managed to recover position and rush in for the TD, leaving the score 3-1. Inferiority failed to muster a counter-attack in the closing stages of the match – superior defense from the Furies, coupled with a devastating blow from Vaygil that left Wood Elf lineman Quak in the Badly Hurt box, left Inferiority with no chance of a consolation score. The Furies celebrated their second away victory, while concerns brew over who will Captain the squad in their next match. |
