BACKGROUND The village of Tour was sacked by a great wyrm some 20 years ago. Forced onto the road, the elves of Tour needed to make a living any way they could. So they fell back on their natural skills and formed a theatre company, Ruette. Much to their surprise the demand for musical theatre and cabaret was not as strong in other parts of the world as they were used to. Tap performances were met with stony silence, whilst linedancing and acapella renditions didn't sell so well with the dwarves. As attendances dwindled Ruette were forced to accept a booking to play at the Theatre of Nightmares to make ends meet. The full scale of the administrative blunder was only discovered when the Theatre of Nightmares was found not to be a themed play house but a Blood Bowl field. Ruette quickly tried to cancel the arrangement but a contract is a contract, particularly when enforced by the venue's ogre security staff. To the astonishment of many, their dramatic skills transferred well to the field. The co-ordination of the chorus line made for well organised linemen, the quick feet of the lead dancers spawned spectacular runners, the acrobats worked on sacking ball carriers and mime was, well to be honest, still useless. Ruette continue to stage dramatic shows and for many that remains their first calling. But there are also those who have warmed to Blood Bowl and they take to the field with relish and often jazz hands. HISTORY Early days (games 0-26) as Ruette find their feet they play some amateur blood bowl. Results are very mixed and we look back on these games with a wry smile on the naivety of our play. Emergence (games 27-97) - with players such as Athelon, Belor, Celegorm, Ioasio and Nallad the team starts to find its stride. Celegorm is the team's first legend and bosses the play as Ruette start to play some good stuff. The era is cut short when Belor and Celegorm are removed in the same bloody game. The Cal years (games 98-226) - Cal arrives and the team goes from strength to strength. A holy trinity of Atherlon, Beleg and Cal is formed which dominates many an opposition team. Cal becomes one of the great wood elf players of all time. The team starts to make forays into major tournaments, but learns the hard way that the squad is not deep enough. The era is a golden one which comes crashing down after elimination from the Fumbbl Cup. With 8 casualties in their FC game Ruette goes on a string of 'recovery games' which ultimately backfire with a string of 14 deaths in 16 games with Cal eventually falling. A new beginning (games 227-271) - still reeling from the loss of Cal there is a glimmer of hope. Two new wardancers possess the skills to shine and the rest of the team starts to rebuild. Unfortunately it's a false dawn. Two of the worst games in Ruette's history (AG5 is useless) culminate in Tafal's death. Globetrotters (games 272 - 331) - Glorfindel is the core of the team but as injuries pile up they become less suited for competitive play and engage in a series of exhibition games. With three niggles, Glorfindel eventually dies (twice in one game) and the era comes to a close. I feel the need, the need for speed (games 332 - ?) - two exceptionally fast wardancers and Uic create a team which counterattacks at unbelievable speed. High scores are the norm during this period. HALL OF FAME Celegorm - The team's first legend. Before Cal he held many of the records. Cal - most appearances, top scorer, top rusher and top star. The team's second legend and making something of a mockery of this by taking all the records. Beleg - a member of the 'holy trinity' of legends. Atherlon - most casualties for a while and a member of the 'holy trinity' of legends. Belor - a great wardancer whose career was too short. Nallad - long standing lineman Ioasio - long standing lineman monster Deeproot - a violent tree who was a mainstay of the early side and once held the most casualty record. Strongleaf - a solid tree but makes the Hall of Fame because HE SCORED. Glorfindel - most casualties, most interceptions and incredibly fast. Uic - awesome ball carrying lineman and top passer. Azalal - Ruette's fastest ever player, with Era formed a lightning quick partnership. Era - Formed the partnership of speed with Azalal and also holds a perfect larson. |
