University of Merland, Basilisk Clutch is a small school that is often overshadowed by its prestigious neighbor, Mary's Land. While it was renowned for producing graduates of its Abacus and Reporting Sciences programs, the school lacked the resources for intramural sports programs. But when Mary's Land began using the only non-flooded field near campus for their blood bowl practice, some UMBC underclass-skinks took to fetching errant balls that landed in the swamp after squirting from the arms of would-be recruits to that program (along with other bits of them). These skinks started to see opportunities outside of bureaucracy and service industries, and formed their own team without any support from UMBC leadership.

The so-called "All Skinks" challenged Mary's Land to a friendly, which became very unfriendly very quickly once the Terrible Terrapin Sauri got involved. Despite a 7-0 score at the end of regulation, mostly due to there being no skinks left on the UMBC side after the first half, blood bowl fever spread through the campus. A half-dozen Sauri from the Applied Physics department joined the few skinks who survived that first match and petitioned the NCBB for membership.
