The Atlantic Coast Conference is 2-13 all time in BCS bowl games. One of the wins was by Virginia Tech against an at large Cincinnati team. While fun to watch, no one that really knows football had Cincinnati confused with a good team. The other win was by Florida State in the BCS championship game. At the time, Florida State was a premiere football program, but has since slid into mediocrity. I guess they spent too much time around too many other mediocre teams. The bottom line is, when you suck for 14 years, you don't all of a sudden become good over the course of one year. :D
