They used to stand there waiting. Men, some women, and even children. Waiting. And waiting. Like their eldre siblings and their parents, and even their parents before them. Waiting in front of the massive gates leading to the famous Farnesi Marble Quarries. The Place were all the best marble in Tilea was quarried. Waiting until the first ray of sun came over the mountaintop in the east. The ray of sun that was almost like a ray of hope, since it meant that the gates would open and the foreman of the quarries, a gaunt old man named Niccolo Mafese, would come out and pick the lucky 400 of the near one thousand quarriers that would get a job that day. That would get some money and would be able to eat that day. The rest would shuffle home to their shacks and Return in the early morning the next day. Waiting again. It was to this place that Arnold Schwarzwald came to recruit players for his Blood Bowl Team. Arnold had been a promising Professional player. As a Young blitzer he had come to the training camp of the Reikland Reavers, and been accepted. The Reavers sent him to one of their farming teams, and he even made a name for himself. For two years he ruled the pitch in the minors, until that fateful play-off game when he lost his left arm to a goblin chainsaw. A month later, Arnold was leaving the Empire behind. In a certain hurry, it must be admitted. Along with his pro career and a very dead goblin. Instead, he went across the Mountains and ended up in North Tilea. And decided to make a living here the only way he could, by coaching a Blood Bowl team. He recruited among these waiting quarriers. A team of strong, young quarriers who were eager to try something new. Anything that could put some food on their table. Arnold promised them anything to entice them to play, and they came. So far, ten players have signed, but Arnold feel confident that more quarriers will be willing to try when he needs them. After all, when the alternative is to wait, morning after endless morning for the handful of jobs available, then even Blood Bowl seems fun... Team colours: Dark grey with orange trimming Team homefield: Marble Floor stadium (the quarriers used leftover marble from the quarries to tile their home stadium. The result is that the field is a chaos of slippery feet and bodies going anywhere and everywhere whenever it rains or snows). Team owners: Giuseppe Gazza (their trading house is one of the old worlds largest traders in stone for building and construction, and has branched out into... well.. certain activities... eh... maybe we'll tell you one day...) |
