Nuffle All-Stars

We went to the place where blood bowl began. You know, the battlefield where the Dwarf and Orc armies' war came to a sudden standstill after their archeological discovery. I'm no warrior or athlete. but as a fan of the sport, I became so transfixed that Holly (my girlfriend) had to drag me away. I had felt something. When we rejoined our friends at one of the pubs outside of the shrine, I tried to explain what it was that I had felt, succeeding only in making myself sound foolish. I drank too much, as usual, so Holly grabbed my arm and led me back to the guesthouse. I lay on the bed, the room spinning, as I fell into a drunken slumber.

"Build It And They Will Come" a voice said. "Who will come?" I asked, weakly, only I knew the answer. "Build It And They Will Come" was the only reply.

When I woke up I looked at my reflection and knew what I had to do. I had to build a stadium. Not one of those venues that can hold thousands of screaming fanatics but a practice facility with little or no seating. I had an old barn on my property and spent the next weeks converting it into an indoor bloodbowl field. Holly left me. I really liked her. Nay, loved her. But this new obsession of mine drove her away. I built it. Would they come?

I had a period of self loathing. I worked like a madman to complete this project only to fall into a vaccuum of disillusionment. I bought several cases of that nasty Goblin beer that I am so fond of and drank myself into a stupor, passing out in the middle of my field. The next morning I was awakened by a kick. "Ow!" I complained, holding my side as I curled into the fetal position, writhing in pain. I wasn't accustomed to being kicked. "Ow!"

"What is this place?" I looked at my interrogator and gasped. A godlike man, a leather helmet on his head, a sweatshirt with a "C" on his chest, his handsome features sporting a grin as he perused the field I had built. As I struggled to sit up I saw ten other men dressed similarly to my kicker. Most of them were looking about them in amazement at my barn.

"What is this place, you ask?' I replied, "Nuffle, the god of bloodbowl, came to me in a dream and commanded me to build this for you!"

Jim Thorpe, Dutch Clark, Red Grange, wait a minute... what happened to this fellow? Cal Hubbard came to this world horribly disfigured into an Ogre. No matter. I built it, they came. Nuffle has a plan, I am only his humble vessle. The Nuffle All-Stars are born.
