In the summer of 2515 the Nurgle Rotters toured the eastern ranges of the Empire playing matches against selected local human teams and races from the Worlds Edge Mountains. The Ryedale Red-Kites were lucky enough to be chosen to play one such exhibition game, they lost, badly.

The bodies of the fallen were returned to the towns and villages around Ryedale and the local undertaker set about sewing severed limbs back onto the corpses ready for burial. Within a day the undertaker had fallen ill with the dreaded Nurgle's Rot. Inside of a week entire villages were sick and the plague was spreading rapidly.

To halt the spread of the disease Lord Leodis, Sheriff of Seacroft, ordered all the dead, the ill, and all those who had had contact with the infected to be thrown into one of the disused quarries of the old Six Feet mine works on Bogart Hill.

For months the dead, dying and diseased piled up in what became known as the 'Ryedale Plague Pit' until the sickness had run its course and Ryedale was once more free of the plague. After a full week with no further sign of the infection the peoples of Ryedale gathered atop the quarry walls for a service of remembrance for those less fortunate than themselves who had ended up piled in the muddy polluted waters at the bottom of the Pit, those unlucky souls were named the Plague Pit Pitifuls.

But deep at the bottom of the pile of corpses something still stirred, bodies of members of the original Ryedale Red-kite team and other victims of the Rot twitched and stirred, their decaying bodies reanimated by the Plague that took their lives with a single desire - to once more take to the field of battle, to play for the greater glory of Nurgle and to infect with the Rot as many as possible, and so it was that the Plague Pit Pitifuls were born.
