Coach: Datom Stadium: Axe Direct Stadium Team Colours: Red, Blue and Gold Talabheim Sluggers Deep in the heart of logging country, the mighty Axe Direct PLC have made their move. They have bought the team, overthrown the heirachy and hired company man and 'executive coach', Datom, to run their storied franchise, despite his lack of experience. Some see it as a cynical ploy to use the team to market their range of axes to the watching Empire. Despite the protests, Axe Direct will not be swayed! KFC EAST CHAMPIONS - Season 6 First team ever to make the playoffs without a winning record "We did it for the mediocre everywhere" KFC EAST CHAMPIONS - Season 7 10-2-4 record, taking 2nd seed and finally departing in the Championship Game "Luck, pows and slugging" Seasons 1-4 What follows are the words of the Talabheim head coach, c9805222: Season 1: The inaugrual DLE season and the Log Cutters and Sawmills Foresters Association of Talabheim uses its wealth and contacts to form the Talabheim Sluggers, rumours abound that the Sluggers are just a front for money laundering activities carried out by the Log Cutters and Sawmills Foresters Association , however critics are silenced when the Sluggers announce their intent to be contenders by making Louis Slugg their Franchise player and bringing in Big_Tschad as the head coach. Anthony Barr, a future Hall of Fame player, is drafted. Season 2: Big_Tschad leaves the team in mysterious circumstances, in a hurry to bring in a coach for his replacement the Sluggers board hire unknown rookie c9805222. Mainly known for his dealings with Ogres and Dark Elves, c9805222 is an unknown quantity within the DLE and looks to be successful ending Season 2 4/0/1 However the results hide the loss of key players, and the inexperience of c9805222 is shown in his draft and trades, leading to a slightly weaker than anticipated team to start Season 3. Season 3: A poor start to the season is forgotten with a mid season surge which sees the Sluggers looking like potential play-off candidates. Unfortunately divisional rivals the Bandits strengthen significantly during the midseason trade window, bringing in Allen Cortez . The Sluggers are unable to keep pace with the Bandits and finally opt to improve their draft position once the play-offs are beyond hope and throw the final two games of the season. Season 4: Buoyed by an excellent draft and having a number of new players in the team, the Sluggers coach and fans have high expectations. These expectations are brought crashing back to reality as the death toll mounts, the loss of Franchise player Louis Slugg and the death of 2 1st round picks in the opening 3 games leaves the Sluggers looking a little lacklustre. Further deaths in the form of King Hill, Keith Wenning, Deckard Shaw plus the sacking of the Frank 'Alli' Gore means the Sluggers remain rooted to the bottom of the entire league. The only bright spot of the season - a single victory over the Bandits. Seasons 5-7 Season 5: Following a disatrously unlucky start to the season, with four losses on the bounce, Sluggers Head Coach Ben Awesome walked out of Talabheim, got on a boat, and didn't resurface until Season 6 on the shores of Albion. Executive Coach Datom, a blithering idiot and company man, was installed despite no experience of coaching anything of any quality. Some pride was salvaged with wins against the 49ers, Grizzlies, CCC and (this will become a recurring theme) a magically lucky victory over the Gunners, and a chaotic draw against the Eagles. 4-1-11 was the record, but at least some key players developed. That said, you'll never make the playoffs with only 4 wins. Err... Season 6: PLAYOFFS BABY! Despite failing to win any more games than the season before, the Sluggers and their gang of extra-strong bruisers won the KFC by virtue of, err, drawing lots. The cunning strategy of 'getting battered for six turns, scoring in two, scoring in two, getting battered for six turns' may have got everyone killed, but saw off a charge from the Gunners who were eventually kept out based on head-to-head record (Sluggers having had another miraculously lucky win over the Gunners in the early season). 4-8-4 was the final reckoning, making the Sluggers the first team to make the playoffs without a winning record. Well done everyone. Somehow, a wrecked Talabheim side managed to keep it close against the eventual superbowl champs, the Classics, losing in overtime 2-1. So that was nice. Season 7: BOOM! Sluggers win more than they did in the previous 2 seasons, going proper insane with a 10-2-4 record, scooping the bye with 2nd seed, and then getting their first playoff win in a 4-3 shootout with the Griffins. They bounced back to earth with a 1-0 shutdown by those Pats, and for the second year running Sluggers lost to the eventual champs. To say the regular season was weird would be an overstatement, limping in at 4-1-4 after 9 games, only to go 6-1-0 through their last seven and power through the ranks. Executive Coach datom denied he had loaded up the troops on greenies (powies?). |
