Styx and Warpstones

What happens after you die? If you were a sneaky rat or a tricksy Goblin, you go to Erebos. Here hundreds of soulless players roam, as the constant daily influx of freshly maimed and rejected players cross over the River Styx, using the last of their gold crowns to pay for the crossing. Here they have one goal. Renew their career and survive long enough to win the favour of the Underworld coaches, who bless them with the skills needed to become great again. While many players fail through premature death or injury and are sent to rot with the unburied souls, others, a select few, are either blessed by Elysion bestowing them with great skills to achieve success or favoured by Tartarus, cursed with horrible mutations.

Prior to 2518 Styx possessed the best Underworld team the SWL had ever seen in the CRP era. However, over the summer of 2517/18 the League brought in a wave of new rules, an opportunity to level the playing field. The team quickly reapplied under the same name and built a roster of rookies looking to emulate their hero Volos and achieve the league wide glory and fame he had achieved in such a short time frame. The result? .....Volos who? BB16 Styx re-wrote UW history! How?

The team made a modest start to the new SWL, propping up the bottom of the league for the first two seasons, but season LXXIV was impressive, blitzing through Reggie’s, and only cheating Dorfs managed to prevent them from the silverware....or is it bronzeware in Reggie’s? Promoted into conferences again the team struggled, but with Salamoneus, Arethusa and more all seriously considering retirement, the team put in a historic conference season, season LXXVI, which saw Styx and Warpstones finish 2nd and earn a spot in the Premier division, a feat never before attained in SWL history. It took 60 games and 2 editions of the team, but Styx and Warpstones made Prem, finishing the season a respectable 6th place with 2 victories. Two season later they were (amazingly with a negative TD and Cas delta) back in Prem and still winning games when the coach was trying to sack them all and rebuild. A quick drop down to Reggies, followed by the introduction of the Gutter Runner Aeneas to the UW roster, transformed the Styx fortunes. Season LXXXIV looked gone when Persephone and Pluto died in consecutive games, leaving the UW troll-less for the majority of the season, one they would shock the entire Blood Bowl world by going 5-1-1 and winning the appropriately named Salamoneus Conference thanks to the frequent services of the best damn Wizard the 8 colleges of magic had ever seen. A fitting tribute to the legend, and more SWL records, and firsts, that Styx achieved to see their third Premier appearance. Prem Season LXXXV was one for the ages, as Styx went 4-2-1, missing out on the title by the smallest of margins with only the 2nd tie breaker separating the People's Team from the Lab Rats and the UW finished an incredible 2nd, securing their 4th Prem run and the love and adoration of surface people from every corner of the Old World. Styx ended the BB 2016 era of SWL with a 5th Prem run, their 3rd in 4 seasons and while it was a winless one, it saw Aeneas and Cronus join Salamoneus as Legends and showed how far the team had come, from one that brought shock and amazement that Underworld actually made Prem, to being one that was there consistently. With the new BB 2020 franchises on the Horizon, the team put in their ticket to start the 3rd iteration of the team, one in which heralded a new and exciting time.
