This was..... No fun!
My favorite actor Rutger Hauer has died! The guy did it all, from big Hollywood-productions to small indipendent movies and even thou some of the movies may have been abit on the crappy side he did always a very good role. My favourite role may be as Roy Batty in Bladerunner or perhaps as John Ryder in the Hitcher. Sometimes I go back and re-discover some of his old movies and one of the movies that I always go back to is Blood of heroes/Salute of the Jugger, and that togheter with Bloodbowl is my question of the Hen or the egg?

I Have always loved post-apocalyptic movies like Mad max and such and try to watch every movie that I can find in the subject, but frankly, most of them are quite bad, with a few exceptions. Blood of Heroes is one of them!

I think I came across the movie around 1990 and it has stuck around in my mind since then, watching it almost once a year since then som I may have watched it for about 25-30 times now. The only movie I have watched that many times may be the Platoon, so it is obviously in my top3 however I wanna rank a movie today.

And, blood bowl is the only game I play online so is it a coincident? Probobly not! Salute of the jugger is as close as you can get to a blood bowl movie as you can get, and since there are no movies about the subject out there at all, it is the best thing as far as I can see.

I guess most of you old-school players out there know about the movie but if you dont, try to find a way to watch it somehow. It is avalible on youtube in a quite bad quality and keep it as a last resort if you cant find it elsewere.

Over and out* :/

The Sunday night movie is gonna have to be Blade Runner. It maybe could have been Blade Runner/Hitcher double bill but we saw Hitcher only a few months ago.
I'll never get tired of Salute of the Jugger, but my family has already seen it far more times than they consider appropriate.

I shouldn't blame Rutger Hauer for my increased Guinness consumption, but he did make it look really cool. ;)

Blood bowl was released a few years before Blood of Heroes. Rollerball is a different style but much a earlier American violent team sport movie (1975). But maybe the inspiration is simply the big tackles of American Football.

Very sad news about Rutger Hauer. A superb sinister character actor!

Most underrated movie of his: Blind fury

Surprisingly good flick with him showing his funny side for once
Posted by Bloodfeast on 2019-07-25 23:58:05
Ah yes, the guinness comercial has almost completly slipped my mind so cool t orecap with that hehe

And ladyhawk, is okay, so was blind fury. Oh, the early movies where the best!

Yeah, rollerball is also a good flick, but I think it would have been better if they cut maybe 30 minutes of it. I remember seeing some roller derby matches on tv maybe 30 years ago or so, and it is a cool game. almost 100 years old now I think.

Thanks for the replyes and I hope this post can throw some people into some of Hauers old disc.

I remember hearing about his role in Batman Begins and him doing a promo interview discussing his role as the primary villain.

Of course, the twist was that Batman's mentor Liam Neeson turned out to be the villain, and is was all a distraction. Amazing League of Shadows stuff :)

He will be missed...

I'll have to track down Salute of the Jugger and some of his other older films. More recently, I loved Hobo with a Shotgun!

There is a good version of split second on youtube! :)

A true great and unique voice in cinema.
I shall restrict myself to one character quote, and of course it is:

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

And one Rutger the actor quote:

"Good guy" or "bad guy", hero or anti hero; doesn't matter to me, what role I play, only the character have something magical.

Rutger Hauer. Legend. RIP.
