FUMBBL is the largest online Blood Bowl league in the world and is completely free to join. Play whenever you feel like it, or join one of our many tournaments and player run leagues - you decide!

Compiled from across FUMBBL, this is all the news that's come to my little furry ears. Separated into four sections: 'Public' Leagues, Open Play Environments, Independent Tournaments, and Meta-groups. If you know more that is going on, please let razmus know so he can add it to the next edition, which should be the end April or early May. I've added a channel for conversation amongst League Commissioners on my FUMBBL Leagues Discord. If you're interested in the conversation, please jump into the general channel and ask to be elevated for the commissioner's channel.

The census says that there are still 1033 distinct, active coaches on FUMBBL who play in leagues, essentually where we were last time. Two numbers are given for the range of the league size, because 'active coaches in a league' is a poorly defined descriptor. When the numbers are very different - the league is likely in flux, have some deadwood teams/coaches in their locker rooms, or be at the start or end of a cycle/season (when there's usually a lot of inactive coaches watching the playoffs). Numbers very close together should be pretty close to the 'actual' active coach population (whatever that means) for the group.

These are the leagues closest to looking for more coaches right now. It might still be a bit before you'd play.

Rules	BB2020 (no Mega-Stars)
Current status	A Complete Un-gnome is running thru mid-May. ALWAYS RECRUITING! The 145 Graduate League is available for coaches transitioning from newbie status to the wider community. Come see how much it might help you. Lost in the wider FUMBBL community? Stop in to get your bearings. Mentor program (putting newer coaches with more experienced coaches) is going along well!
Next steps	If you're new to FUMBBL or Blood Bowl, jump in at your leisure. Efforts are being made to make it easier for folks to join with minimal wait and to make it easier to find appropriate opponents.

Timezone/Region	Europe but with coaches from everywhere. Large, fluff heavy league. (Effectively Global)	✷ 57-62
Rules	BB2020 with modified Secret League, and customized BB2016 skill progression. Only one team per roster. (Custom stars, with apothecaries as incompetent as those the rest of us deal with.)
Current status	Year 13, Summer special tournaments, round 1 of 5.
Next steps	Autumn prestige divided tournaments.
To contact	New teams either enter a Youngbloods tournament or the general mix depending on timing, and with a league this large they're pretty much always recruiting. (Right now is an okay time to join CIBBL! Sufficient interest will kickoff a very fun Youngblood tournament.) Contact C0ddlefish and/or join them on the SL Discord in their own section. (Be aware: a lot goes into the administration of this league, and they'll tend to only accept coaches who have something of a proven track record of reliability on FUMBBL.)

Current status	Season 2 playoffs are up to their finals. And bonus games for the rest. They've started actively recruiting.
Next steps	Still recruiting for season 3. Remember -- there's an open environment associated with WOBBL too... stop in and play a few games if you're so inclined.

Current status	"Crap Bowl XI" - round 2 of 4 -- AND season 41, Round 1/2 of 9.
Next steps	More blood, chaos, and probably beer, mead, and lembas. I assume some tournaments that I'm too sober to understand.

Rules	BB2020 rules with BB2016 skill progression, w/player drafts. Limited to 32 Team Franchises. With FLUFF! (No star players) DLE is a long term, all human teams league with extremely high TV.
Current status	Season 16 Championship playoffs, round 2 of 4. Three phases:1(SoS), 2(interconference play), 3(intraconference play), championship playoffs Actively recruiting for several coaches to take over franchises. I can't imagine a better time to jump into this long running, fluff heavy draft league.

Open Play Environments
Open play environments are places where teams can be built to play against other teams in the same environment, usually without scheduling the game, although many open environment also offer their own activities for teams to compete against one another if the coaches wish to participate.

Competitive
Rules	BB2020 - using the latest rules available. Now with redraft/seasons. No Mega-stars.
Activity	Very high activity. This is the primary activity on FUMBBL
To play	Make a team from your Coaches page for the Competitive division and put them in Gamefinder, or activate teams in the Black Box (also now within gamefinder) or seek games on the FUMBBL Discord (the last is more popular with people seeking those last few games to fill a grid.) Be aware that the box random scheduler now separates virtual season one teams from everyone else.
Activities	Royal Rookie Rumble for new teams. (Recruiting 24/7!) Brawls for any Competitive team. Brackets break at 1350 and 1650. Minors is now recruiting with an unlimited TV for a double elimination tournament starting on 16 April. XFL new season, with Chorfs, Necro, Ogre, and Elf Union running now, Chaos ren, Delf, Undead, and Norse next in May. Major Tournaments spread out across the year, each with their own requirements and some with qualifier tournaments. The Ulthuan Invitational qualifiers are running now, with the Grotty Little Tournament next in May.


Rules	BB2020 with custom rosters. Now with redraft/seasons. (No Mega-stars to mirror Competitive envionment.)
Activity	Some.
To play	Make a team from the group above (or from your coaches page in the "League","Secret League 2020" division). Put them in Gamefinder or seek games on the Secret League Discord
Activities	Old World Rookie Rumble for new teams. Always recruiting! Old World Brawl for any team. Bracket breaks at 1000, 1350, and 1700. [SL]2020 Slam are Slam type instant tournaments for groups of four teams. (just needs interested coaches) [SL]2020 Open Sprint allows teams to compete on points earned in open play, leagues, and touranments. The larger Secret League Major tournament schedule has been announced. The Grand Championship series is still taking applications, but will start tomorrow, 5 April. The Stunty Cup is next, starting 3 May.

Open League
Rules	BB2020 (no Mega-Stars)
Activity	Some.
To play	Create a team from the link on the Open League group page, or from the Create Team link at the bottom of your coaches page and select 'League', 'Open League'. Make them available in gamefinder, or find an opponent in Discord or other places. It's okay to play casual games against friends here.


Rules	BB2020, low competitive. (no Mega-Stars)
Activity	Low.
To play	Create a team from the link on the Chillax group page, and make them available in gamefinder.
Activities	Ongoing sprint seasons, just so there are numbers to watch. Really the environment is just an excuse to play games, so get to it.


Rules	BB2020, 1100TV start, Mega-stars, 2016 progression, Nelphine star pricing, endless seasons.
Activity	Up and running.
To play	Create team for group and just start playing. Join the group to participate in the tournaments.


Rules	BB2016, with imported League, Ranked, or Box teams, including SL16 teams.
Activity	Low
To play	Clone teams into the league to bring new life to them to play. Open [L]eague Cup - No limit, Official 2016 + [SL16] teams for a possibly last ride of glory. (Active recruiting, and intending to run for as long as possible.)


Time/Region	Global, 10-11 day rounds (Wed/Sun deadlines) to facilitate scheduling.... also an open environment.
Rules	BB2020, 4M teams, (almost all) star players.
To play	Create a team in the group and start playing. Periodic tournaments available pending interest.

Independant Tournaments
Tournaments available, which aren't otherwise part of one of the open environments.

Active Metagroups
Metagroups play in other open and league environments, against other teams in the environment which aren't necessarily part of the metagroup, for thier own goals.


Season	Season 13: Jan-Apr 2025
Environment	Competitive (Blackbox Scheduler only)
Synopsis	FUMBBL's only officially supported metagroup. Build one or more squads of four teams, and amass points by winning and tying after randomly matching other teams. One team from each roster will have the opportunity to participate in the Steel Gauntlet, it's own special official [C]ompetitive Division tournament. (See Christer's blog linked above for more information.)

IRONDWARF Trophy
Season	Season 13: Jan-Apr 2025
Environment	Competitive (Blackbox Scheduler only)
Synopsis	The Iron Dwarf Trophy is a meta-event in the Competitive division. Each season, coaches create teams and play these using the Blackbox scheduler. At the end of a season, the winner is the team who managed to get the highest total score. In case you missed it, there was news about the IDT at the end of March.


Season	XCI: March-April 2025
Environment	Competitive, Blackbox, and League (BB2020/SL2020).
Synopsis	A reboot of the original E.L.F. group, Elf teams accumulate points for playing (and more for winning) against a variety of different rosters. Additional awards for filling your dance card, and a special award for taking more casualties than anyone else. (Discord Channel.)

Announcing the next FUMBBL Minor. In the era of Seasons, this tournament shall be open to any Competitive Division team with fifteen or fewer games played in their current season, with any number of seasons under their belts.

Open [L]eague Sprints

The season started 16th March and runs until midnight 30th April.
You still have plenty of time to get some points on the board.

There is no schedule. Play as many games as you can/wish before the end of the season.
Results are taken from a team's best 'sprint' of n consecutive games. Different leagues count a different number of games. e.g 6 or 8.

Teams may use Gamefinder to find matches. They may also use a league's discord or Fumbbl discord #lfg.

For coaches new(ish) to blood bowl or looking to improve. NO timeouts!
Also for experienced coaches wishing to offer help, advice, match analysis etc to newcomers. (8 games.)

20 Year Anniversary

The 29th March this year marked my 20 year anniversary on this great site.

I'd like to send a masive, massive thank you so much to Christer and all the Devs, Staff, Helpers, Commishes, Coaches and all who have made this such a great place over the years.

20 years of moaning, grumbling and arguing. League running and script writing. League plugging and occasionally even game playing.

It has been a lot of fun and at times a welcome distraction.

Speccing NWBL Otter Chaos vs Orbis Necra

I always like to go back and watch what happend in 0-0 games. This one was a fun one, a raucous slugfest in the middle of the pitch and no one going anywhere until it was too late. Here's a play by play as narrated by our very own Coach Oryx Wild:

They brawl it out along the sideline with roughly equal success, although notably shadowmanes loses a mummy to ko. Shadowmanes can't break through the line, and runs out of time to side swap. Gets the mummy back for the second half, otter chaos gets the ko'd beast back for an even 11 on 11. The troll is like... the dumbest troll that ever trolled. So many 1'd stupid rolls, double skulls, even a triple that resulted in a both down early in the second half. He seems to wake up mid second half and contributes a bit.

Shadowmanes pulls out a blodge ghoul and substitutes a dodge ghoul on the defense in the second half. I really disagree with this play here - with little block on the chaos and only 1 tackle, I would have definitely substituted all 4 ghouls in with zombies, looking for the steal here. They're extremely resilient to block-less chaos, and not that much more fragile. They also dodge out reasonably well for repositioning and dodging purposes. A gambit by shadowmanes and a clever surf by razmus blew this game wide open on turn 6 of the second half, when razmus was clearly struggling to break through into a scoring position. Then Razmus got blown out by a skull on a single die block, and the surf was returned by Shadowmanes, stealing the momentum back. The brawl was unmoving in the center of the pitch, and turnovers abounded. The ball got lost amidst the scrum. This time Shadowmanes managed to get a ghoul into scoring range, but razmus was able to blitz him out of scoring range.

Lessons learned:
bring 3-4 ghouls when you really need to score, especially if the opponent doesn't have a lot of block.
Don't depend on big guys, they'll break your heart every time.
If you're not breaking through on the sideline, try to start the sideswitch earlier so that you can get in easy scoring range by turn 7. This is also a drive where I would have probably used all 4 ghouls, and sideswitching would have been very easy. Despite being outstrengthed and outskilled to a degree, I think that this this matchup is heavily undead favored unless casualties skew heavily against them. Chaos struggles to deal with your blodge, and with proper play can impede you but struggles to match your speed. It's a very swingy matchup because they want to block a lot and don't have a lot of block.
I think that in this game chaos just needed to take more risks - turtling in the middle of the field hoping for overwhelming casualities is a plan, but it often doesn't result in scoring and that was true this game. Wrapping 'round the side and going for the sideline score was definitely an option, especially with only two ghouls to contend with. I don't mind playing for casualties, but I like to try to score too, and going straight through undead is quite hard and was made harder as time went on.

Bounty Bowl IV Toledo Ohio May 10th 2025

Are you tired of the same old format for NAF tournaments?

Do you want a new challenge, to build a roster that rewards you for your creativity?

Do you also want to headhunter your opposition’s players, and get rewarded when you do it well?

Do you want to be able to hire any star? Or if you face a star, do you want to be able to kick him in the teeth when he is down (the refs will look the other way more often)?

Then Bounty Bowl IV is for you!!!

Rosters are tiered; however, you can build them any way you want within the budget constraints.

Why would it be called a Bounty Bowl if you didn’t get to head hunt!?! Each game you and your opponent will have a Bounty placed upon their head. If the Bounty player scores, they will earn a Bounty point, and each time you injure your opponent’s bounty player you get a point as well!

If your opponent has a star player the ref will look the other way if you foul him/her (you get sneaky git fouling star players). Also, if that player happens to be a “Mega Star” then you fouling player is counted as having dirty player too when fouling that Mega Star.

Finally, do you want to earn points for the GLAM tournament scene? Well, you’re in luck, we are a GLAM tournament, and you’ll get your credit there too!
