As you may have read in my prior blog post I joined the BBT13 in January 2025 and finally managed to complete the run with with my 'Masochistic Elves' squad. Why that name? Well, I was prepared to suffer a lot of damage with elves.

And 'why all this blog posting?' Well mainly for myself. I guess in a couple of years I may look back and laugh.

My goals were to complete at least the four elven roster runs and achieve a positive record with each, as well as reach a top60 or better in the overall squad ranking.

To be very honest I did not expect such a result beginning of January. As I wrote towards the end of my hitchhikers guide to the 145 group I did not even feel prepared for the 'sharkpool' Blackbox. And now I reached my goal for the squad standing, got a positive record for all four rosters in total and for three rosters individually as well and surprisingly even would earn a slot for the Steel Gauntlet at the time of publishing this blog (update will be provided) with the third place in the Wood Elf roster ranking (and maybe would also be able to alternatively send the Elven Union). This really feels more like a 'sea of opportunities' now.

The win rates are not outstanding and only slightly above the roster averages (no not for High Elf!), but I am still happy with the results. Making it (at least for a short time) to 4th place in roster-specific coach ranking for Elven Union and 6th for Wood Elfs was something I would not have imagined before the run. Even something like top20 for Dark and High Elf or something around 70th in the overall coach ranking is something I am proud of... I know we all have different ambitions.

But as a little teaser to the conclusion, this also comes at a cost. At least to me it did.

I know there are different oppinions regarding CR, but I will use it here to indicate three topics:

1) It seems that - for elven rosters - my own CR reaches a ceiling just below 1700. After some steep progress with the Elven Union (based on a low starting level) the other three roster runs did not really continue that upward journey or - in case of the High Elf - even decreased my CR.

2) The overall average of opponet's CR was about the same level with a slightly 'easier' run for the Wood Elfs and the hardest run for the Dark Elfs.

3) I tend to win downhill battles easier (surprise!), because the AVG opp. CR of won matches is below the overall opp. AVG CR and my own AVG CR... BUT this is not true for Wood Elfs!

The overall variance of rosters I played against was quite high, but there were some outstanding ones: our beloved stumpy beard-bearers and the bony sand-crawlers.

I expected to mainly play against bash teams, but I still cannot fully explain why my elves have such a hard time against the pretended weak Blorc teams. What I know now is why many people do not like playing against Dwarf. Maybe I need to play them myself for a while to understand what some people like about them.

Nevertheless, facing so many great coaches was a pleasure and a challenge at the same time. As little fun facts: The first spin of the run matched me against Malmir and I lost three matches against the well known Naama.

But let me tell you this: despite a positive CR development I still do not feel like a 'Super Star' (not to speak of 'Mega Star') because I really need to progress on consistency. Playing games safe. Accepting a draw and waiting patiently for the opportunity. 'The real skill comes from knowing when it’s time to play safe and when it’s time to chuck dice.' (WaffleIron) I do not fell that I have aquired that skill yet.

... and sorry for the little bragging. No offence meant. It was an honor to play against each of you and mostly I needed to get very, very lucky to win those matches.

[i][size=8]When looking at the win rate by opposing roster you also need to consider that the opposing coach's skills is influencing the results as well. When facing dwarfs for example, it was 7 of 8 cases a Mega Star or even a Legend leading the team (but I also lost the one match against a Super Star) while all four Ogre matches were played by Stars or Super Stars.[/i][/size]

So what is my final conclusion on this BBT run? It was a great opportunity to play against a variety of coaches and rosters. I really love the advantages of NOT being able to be picky here and mostly get a quick and spontaneous match via the blackbox scheduler... And I learned a lot! (Thanks again for Koadah and the 145 crew to seed this approach to the game in me.)

Nevertheless, I need to admit that it was quite stressful to play those 60 matches within a season of four month considering real life limitations. Maybe playing Elfs adds to the feeling of 'need to play' sometimes. At least towards the end of the High Elf run and after the harsh start of the Dark Elf run (Thanks Malmir for Killing and crippling two Blitzers in game one) this was a dominating feeling. And it really should not. And I need to appologize to anyone who needed to sustain my bad mood during the last High Elf runs!!!

Thus, I think this was my last full BBT run for quite a time and I plan to reduce my Fumbbl time in total significantly.

Which does not mean that I will not play at all, but I will set another focus. Maybe I will try to unlock the elf badges in the Iron Dwarf Trophy - which at this time seems absolutely impossible - or I will just enjoy a Blackbox match from time to time. Without stressing myself into games I do not really want to play and even risking real life issues because of excessive Fumbbl time. There are other rosters to be played... learning 'conventional Bloodbowl' with Human, playing 'Broken Bowl' with Amazon or Norse... or even give Dwarfs a chance.

20 years of moaning, grumbling and arguing. League running and script writing. League plugging and occasionally even game playing.

It has been a lot of fun and at times a welcome distraction.

FUMBBL Brawl 9 Apr (Low drawn)

Brawls are a weekly drawn tourney for Competitive Division teams and will be run on the KotH system, meaning the second round pairing will be generated randomly after the first round is complete.

My name is Malmir and I'm an addict...

Currently playing Goblins (shudder) for BBT. I've already verbally retired the team twice. After the first time, I vowed they were done. After three weeks, I went back. What's the worst that could happen? I found out. Again, verbally and mentally retired them (the last being only yesterday). Today, I find myself playing them again. A failed 3+ with a turnover score beckoning followed by a treble skull and I'm forced to accept that somehow I'm addicted to this pain, otherwise why would I go back? I'm not even sure what I'm looking for from this blog. Sympathy? Understanding? A help, support group? I'm about to enter them in again. Someone stage an intervention.

FUMBBL League News 4 April

Compiled from across FUMBBL, this is all the news that's come to my little furry ears. Separated into four sections: 'Public' Leagues, Open Play Environments, Independent Tournaments, and Meta-groups. If you know more that is going on, please let razmus know so he can add it to the next edition, which should be the end April or early May. I've added a channel for conversation amongst League Commissioners on my FUMBBL Leagues Discord. If you're interested in the conversation, please jump into the general channel and ask to be elevated for the commissioner's channel.

The census says that there are still 1033 distinct, active coaches on FUMBBL who play in leagues, essentually where we were last time. Two numbers are given for the range of the league size, because 'active coaches in a league' is a poorly defined descriptor. When the numbers are very different - the league is likely in flux, have some deadwood teams/coaches in their locker rooms, or be at the start or end of a cycle/season (when there's usually a lot of inactive coaches watching the playoffs). Numbers very close together should be pretty close to the 'actual' active coach population (whatever that means) for the group.

Current status	Year 13, Summer special tournaments, round 1 of 5.

Open Play Environments
Open play environments are places where teams can be built to play against other teams in the same environment, usually without scheduling the game, although many open environment also offer their own activities for teams to compete against one another if the coaches wish to participate.

Competitive
Rules	BB2020 - using the latest rules available. Now with redraft/seasons. No Mega-stars.
Activity	Very high activity. This is the primary activity on FUMBBL
To play	Make a team from your Coaches page for the Competitive division and put them in Gamefinder, or activate teams in the Black Box (also now within gamefinder) or seek games on the FUMBBL Discord (the last is more popular with people seeking those last few games to fill a grid.) Be aware that the box random scheduler now separates virtual season one teams from everyone else.
Activities	Royal Rookie Rumble for new teams. (Recruiting 24/7!) Brawls for any Competitive team. Brackets break at 1350 and 1650. Minors is now recruiting with an unlimited TV for a double elimination tournament starting on 16 April. XFL new season, with Chorfs, Necro, Ogre, and Elf Union running now, Chaos ren, Delf, Undead, and Norse next in May. Major Tournaments spread out across the year, each with their own requirements and some with qualifier tournaments. The Ulthuan Invitational qualifiers are running now, with the Grotty Little Tournament next in May.

The larger Secret League Major tournament schedule has been announced. The Grand Championship series is still taking applications, but will start tomorrow, 5 April. The Stunty Cup is next, starting 3 May.

Activity	Low.

Activities	Ongoing sprint seasons, just so there are numbers to watch. Really the environment is just an excuse to play games, so get to it.

Synopsis	FUMBBL's only officially supported metagroup. Build one or more squads of four teams, and amass points by winning and tying after randomly matching other teams. One team from each roster will have the opportunity to participate in the Steel Gauntlet, it's own special official [C]ompetitive Division tournament. (See Christer's blog linked above for more information.)

IRONDWARF Trophy
Season	Season 13: Jan-Apr 2025
Environment	Competitive (Blackbox Scheduler only)
Synopsis	The Iron Dwarf Trophy is a meta-event in the Competitive division. Each season, coaches create teams and play these using the Blackbox scheduler. At the end of a season, the winner is the team who managed to get the highest total score. In case you missed it, there was news about the IDT at the end of March.


Season	XCI: March-April 2025
Environment	Competitive, Blackbox, and League (BB2020/SL2020).
Synopsis	A reboot of the original E.L.F. group, Elf teams accumulate points for playing (and more for winning) against a variety of different rosters. Additional awards for filling your dance card, and a special award for taking more casualties than anyone else. (Discord Channel.)

Announcing the next FUMBBL Minor. In the era of Seasons, this tournament shall be open to any Competitive Division team with fifteen or fewer games played in their current season, with any number of seasons under their belts.
