The Purple UnbelievARR! (ARR fundraiser pt1)
The bell struck, the teams emerged onto the pitch, the young flings strode out, confident their months of training would be paying off immediately and they'd show the cheering crowd what the best of the Moot could really do.

The stadium was packed to the rafters, a daunting presence for the stout smallfellows, but they'd weathered more intimidating venues before and walked away, pride intact.

It was Deriwald Brandybutter who noticed it first. A large image on the pitch in the opponent's half. Brooding large and dominating most of the ground, a deep purple colour. His eyes turned to the silver outlining the logo, and the unmistakable crevasses that aligned to give shape to its tyrian tones. And then the halfling heard the clanking of dwarf boots coming down the tunnel behind him and knew that this game would be his last...

Gentlemen, the fate described above is something every ARR team may face when they click the "big green button" and await the whim of Bowlbot. There are not many things quite as chilling to an ARR sprinter as seeing the words "vs PurpleChest" and "dwarf" (although I hear he likes Orcs too!) appear, and a match screen appear to your right.

Occasionally, a naive soul may say to himself, "ah Dwarfs, well, it's a challenge, but how hard can it be?". Whereupon he enters the game and is greeted with the soul destroying sight... 1 Troll Slayer, 1 Runner, 1 apo, 1 Leader... 1 REROLL??? All that tackle, mass block, and then the guard and mighty blow. Nuffle, I feel ill just thinking about it. And what's more, this isn't exactly a rare occurrence - PC has played and retired more box dwarf teams than I've played dwarf games!

So gents, how would you like to put the boot on the other (hairy) foot? How would you like to drag PurpleChest's dwarven helmet off, and give him a halfling pot?

What am I talking of?

The UnbelievARR sprint!

"Er wait, wots that guv?"
Well, as you may or may not remember, some years ago in the "box full of money" fundraiser, a certain coach known for using Nurgz was persuaded to sprint with OGARRS to raise money for FUMBBL. Last time around, we had our very own box jedi Harad sprint with goblins! (I hear he even fouled once or twice too). This year gents, you have the opportunity to make take this one back into the spirit of original...

Because this year's candidate is none other than PurpleChest.

But of course, this comes with conditions. Getting the man to throw aside his blockers isn't going to be simply a matter of asking nicely. He wants ARR to show some love to FUMBBL and pledge donations for the site and Christer. Well, he wants bribed basically, but it's a bribe we all benefit from. And unlike a longbeard, he doesn't come cheap!

PurpleChest has given us some breakpoints, the first of which if we hit, he'll sprint with an ARR race of *his* choosing. After that? Well, then the choice of his team's race is out of his hands

Gentlemen, I know a few of you have already said in private that you'll pledge an amount. I'd love for you to make that public and for more here to pledge also*... After all, if PurpleChest has shown we can purchase his race for donations, what else can we get him to do? Enter a brawl with his team?

Maybe we can set him some targets? I hear he's the competitive sort! Or maybe you'd like to pledge money for each of his fellow beards that he forces into a retirement home during his sprint?

I've heard word that pledging for this specifically will net you a player named after you on PurpleChest's team (provided demand isn't massive!), and amongst other things, since we here at ARR like shiney things, you can put this in your profile:

But lets face it, the real reward here is being able to draw PC with something squishy and this may be the last chance you get for quite some time!

I'll get the ball rolling and pledge to donate $10 for a completed ARR sprint by PC (hopefully not with a race of his choosing hehehe).

Tune in next time for more news of forthcoming events this season!

*(Pledges will be accepted in private via PM of course if that's what people want).

I'll match AD with $10 for a completed sprint plus $10 for every dwarf team that PurpleChest faces during the sprint.
Posted by JellyBelly on 2016-12-03 15:09:53
Great idea! I pledge $10 if PC completes a sprint with an ARR team, but I'll up it to $15 if he does it with a non-elf team ;)
Posted by cdassak on 2016-12-03 15:13:16
$20 for a stunty sprint :)
Posted by happygrue on 2016-12-03 16:28:00
I'm in to see PC play stunty (preferably flings) for 10 US dollARRs!
Posted by happygrue on 2016-12-03 16:28:35
also: lol at jdmickleburgh, that is truly awesome. :D
Posted by PurpleChest on 2016-12-03 16:39:51
I was thinking:

For $30 I'll sprint an ARR team. I'm pretty handy with pro elves and high elves, several others don't frighten me.

For $60 I'll sprint with a team that isn't elves.

For $90 or upwards I'll sprint with one of Ogres/Flings/Gobbos/4th race based on a quick poll.

Everyone pledging gets named on the team (space permitting). I will aim for semi regular blog post support.

But it seems we have $60+ already for a fling sprint, so that looks likely.
Posted by keggiemckill on 2016-12-03 16:46:01
I'll put in $50 towards a PC Fling Sprint. Plus I'd like to know when he plays so I can enter Dwarves.
Posted by Timetis on 2016-12-03 17:24:29
I'll join in to see PC play flings for 10 euros :)
Posted by thoralf on 2016-12-03 17:26:31
put 11 bucks to watch keggie's dorf games.

My tablet thinks "dorf" is "side"
Posted by happygrue on 2016-12-03 17:43:45
Bam, Keggie gets the job done!

What's the stretch goal, PC? :D

If we can get to 200 will you sprint twice? >:D
Posted by JellyBelly on 2016-12-03 18:16:41
Wow, keggie! :O I'd better make a new Box Dwarf team ... ;)
Posted by bigf on 2016-12-03 19:29:23
count me in for $10 too
Posted by keggiemckill on 2016-12-03 20:19:12
If we get it to $200, will you sprint with Flings, Gobs, and Vamps?
Posted by PurpleChest on 2016-12-03 23:55:16
That's $135 so far. Wow.

I don't know whether to be flattered or insulted.

So, it's flings (a lot of that is fling/stunty dependant).

Hmm, for $250 I'll also sprint with Gobbo's.

Surely we won't reach that.

Posted by DrPoods on 2016-12-04 00:53:04
I'll dump in $5.

That seems funz.
Posted by Miceycraft on 2016-12-04 10:13:01
I'm down for another $10 dollars and see if we can push for the Gob sprint too! Good luck PC :)
Posted by Miceycraft on 2016-12-04 10:24:52
Also there is now a link to this on the ARR group so hopefully more coaches will see this and doonate!
Posted by jdm on 2016-12-04 11:22:00
Up my initial to $20.

Maybe if we give PC enough sprints then his dwarves will be out of the box for the whole of 2017. I'd buy that for a dollar.
Posted by ben_awesome on 2016-12-04 17:11:57
I'll give £5 for this.
Posted by Superlynx on 2016-12-05 07:25:41
I'll chuck in 10€.
Fun times ahead.
Posted by thebursar on 2016-12-05 12:59:11
Put me down for €12. That will make it an even €25 combined with the Ranked Amateurs FC charity drive.
Posted by jdm on 2016-12-05 16:07:43
How short are we from $250?
Posted by ArrestedDevelopment on 2016-12-05 16:14:50
By my count we're on $195 so far (with the addition of Lorebass' $8-10, taken as $8, from HappyGrue's blog).
Posted by keggiemckill on 2016-12-05 16:51:44
He needs to complete the Sprint to get that cash though right?
Posted by Verminardo on 2016-12-05 17:21:43
I'm in with 10!
Posted by happygrue on 2016-12-05 17:35:31
PC to confirm he's clear on that, but as I understand it yes: 16 games with one team, and he can't/shouldn't concede any either... :D

But PC has been on board with getting donations and I'm sure he'll tough it out for the cause. No fear!
Posted by happygrue on 2016-12-05 17:43:46
For the record, ARR first fundraiser (two years ago) raised $480, and last year's raised $262 total. Both have been a joint HLP-ARR effort. We're close to that total just on PC's sprint so I'm hopeful we can pass last year's total but we'll see!
Posted by Valen on 2016-12-05 18:25:20
$30 here guys :)
Posted by pokrjax on 2016-12-05 18:58:54
I'll give £5
Posted by PurpleChest on 2016-12-05 21:30:06
Which takes us to $250. Wow. So I guess Goblins too then.

Also some conditional cash.
thoralf 'put 11 bucks to watch keggie's dorf games'
and jdmickleburgh '$10 for every dwarf team that PurpleChest faces during the sprint'
both not countd as pledged.

Also do we need another stretch goal? i'm not sure what else i can/could do?
Posted by SpecialOne on 2016-12-05 22:15:17
10 USD in the pot!
Posted by happygrue on 2016-12-05 22:28:51
\o/

Well, you surely don't need to but given that you are raking it in perhaps a pie in the sky goal wouldn't hurt if you felt up for it...

EDIT: ARR fundraiser record is 480... if you pledged to play 1 game of ogres NEXT season (Feb/Mar) for every $30 that we beat the total fundraising haul recARRd then a full ogre sprint would be about breaking the $1000 mark... that would be a fun challenge. :D

Then a haul of $600 with all your various dollars and bonus dollars plus the other part of the fundraiser would mean you'd play a few games of ogres next season. Truly a pie in the sky goal for all of us to get to 1000 but maybe... :D
Posted by garyt1 on 2016-12-06 04:13:00
I think an Ogre sprint if it gets to 450 dollars would be good fun.
Actually Ogres are not so desperate at very low tv.
Posted by ArrestedDevelopment on 2016-12-06 08:08:21
I think Ogres is probably more than a long shot, PC is already locked into 32 games with stunty races, possibly more if he ends up with a few disastrous games on either team early on.

The goal of the fundraiser is to raise money gents, not recreate the 12 tasks of Hercules ;)

Posted by jdm on 2016-12-06 08:10:41
12 tasks of Hercules... 12 months of the year... the next clue is in the White House, let's go!
Posted by BlackOrc on 2016-12-06 08:54:09
here with 10$
Posted by ArrestedDevelopment on 2016-12-06 09:38:56
Currently, I count us at ~$270 pledged (taking both the euro and pound as dollars for simplicity, and lorebass' as $8 for ease of addition to the bursar's $12). I haven't included Thoralf's $11, I'll check with him. And JD's pledge may rise obviously.

Posted by jdm on 2016-12-06 14:10:11
game 1 played by chest's goblins. And the filthy lucker draws flings!!

I ask you... I'm off to make a dorf team
Posted by Manzoo on 2016-12-09 03:20:01
10 dollars if anyone can kill or maim John, Whirling Death, annoying little git!
