Luck Rules
Luck Rules

1 Your ‘Bad Dice’ are not the fault of your opponent.
2 Your opponents ‘Good Dice’ are not the fault of your opponent.
3 Your opponent does not usually think your dice are as bad as you think they are.
4 Your opponent does not usually think his dice are as good as you think they are.
5 Any roll can succeed on a six no matter how unlikely it is.
6 Any roll can fail on a one no matter how easy it should be.
7 Re-rolls will fail sometimes.
8 Every other Coach has suffered from this at sometime in the past.
9 Most other coaches understand when you are truly having bad luck but there is nothing they can do that will help ease your frustration.
10 It is a dice game.

If you have read as far as here you know the important stuff, the rest is just my rambling on about it!

All the above & that which follows have been inspired by things I have heard in game, on the forum, or in chat.

A lot has been written about luck. Some very authoritative articles have explained probability, which is key to understanding why things fail or succeed. Everyone who plays ‘Fantasy Football’ or any other dice game should at least understand the basic concept.

That said when you are being ‘Nuffled’ no amount of knowledge really helps you too deal with it. We have all felt the frustration (or will do soon). Remember it is a game it is supposed to be fun. An experienced opponent does not really want you to be ‘Nuffled’ any more than he wants it to happen to him. Everyone wants to win but most of us enjoy a close game more than a walkover.

How you deal with it is the key. First & foremost don’t blame your opponent he does understand what you are going through but he can’t change it even if he wanted to. He would like to say how sorry he is but that is just as likely to get an angry response as saying nothing.
Finish the game (don’t concede) then either get straight into another game & forget the last one or go away & give it a rest for a period of time. Don’t dwell on it that just makes you feel worse. Don’t swear at your opponent or an admin, don’t delete all your teams (you will regret it) most of all don’t start a forum thread on how bad your luck is or that the RNG is broken as this will only cause you more grief.

I try very hard not to take my bad luck out on my opponent but whether I succeed in that is not for me to say. If I have been rude to any of you then I unreservedly apologise. If you have been rude to me then I forgive you, I really do understand how you feel.

i hear you ... but knowing this is only the easy downhill-start of the journey, the tough uphill-part is ACTING accordingly. ;-P

I find it's a lot easier to go 'meh. shit happens.' when an opponent defies all odds and scores for the umpteenth time, than when you see superstar after superstar suffer carreer-ending injuries, though.

Losing a game to bad luck is annoying, but losing great players along with it can get on my nerves.

LOL you lucky sod how can you inflict this epsitle on all us unlucky buggers who have to play you?

I loved it thank you.

I have a question though, does it upset you when I play you and I say "ffs" after I reroll and fail?

I exclaiming at a single point OK as opposed to sentances bemoaning the bad luck?

Well i mean, you COULD just blame Christer for making this website possible cause it "gives you bad luck". I mean, if he closes it down then you wont have to bitch anymore!!

see? things fix themselves!!

nice post man, its been required.

Good post.
I also agree with Sage that adding some unfortunate injury rolls to a harsh defeat can really make it harder to bare, especially if you like a bit of a fluffage. But we have to try to limit the moaning!
Posted by Cyrus-Havoc on 2012-09-06 23:28:03
@Russo
The odd moan like 'ffs' is fine it's really only when it gets personal it goes too far. We do all have bad luck at times and I would expect a little complaining the real point is it's not the other guys fault!

OK cool.

Thanks for the answer :-)
