Of Luck, Legendhood, and Real-Life
Some notable things have happened in my FUMBBL career of late, and so this mega-blog will go some way to picking through them.

First up, after a good dicing, my Necromantic team Foul Deeds Will Rise claimed my first ever SMACK title, winning the Sched PRO CXL. That was a great feeling and a great achievement for me, my second ever mini-tourney win (after a Box Minor last year (that was also a dicing, versus Halflings...)).

The consequence of this victory was that my CR hit 168.7, and propelled me to Legend. This all feels a bit incongruous, as it wasn't that long ago that my CR was sub-150 and my win% was less than 50%. So, I'm under no illusions about my status - I look at the players around me and see coaches who I am not frankly fit to lick the boots of. That said, I've had a bit of a remarkable run of late, not having lost in my last 25 games on FUMBBL (all but one in Box and Ranked). I certainly feel like I'm playing better than I ever have, I feel like some of the basics of the positioning and tactical nuances of the game have finally permeated my skull, and I think I've helped myself by sticking with teams and a TV level I feel comfortable with. Of course, sometimes when you see the scale of your own mistakes, when you get away with them, and as long as you keep rolling dice, you always wonder, am I just a filthy lucker...?

Another recent milestone was my 200th game in Ranked. I have come back to Ranked to play most of my games after getting a bit sick of the nonsense in Box. Also, like it or not, Ranked is still the hub of the FUMBBL tourney scene, and as with the SMACK above, this is the kind of BB I want to be playing, and the best way to play the game (alongside League) imho.

Finally, I signed up this week to play in the Pearly Kings & Queens IX tabletop Tourney in London in April. This will be the first time I have played TT BB in, I would guess, maybe 20 years. It is going to be bloody strange to have roll my own dice! I have bought a couple of teams and am starting to paint them up now, while I make up my mind which I will go with. It's all brought out an almost childish excitement in me, and I don't think I could have imagined when I was a lad that there would be such a fantastic Blood Bowl community twenty years' hence.

Well, there you go, I don't have any particular point to make or axe to grind, just good times to celebrate. It's only right to sign-off this kind of thing with a tip of the hat to the staff, admins and players of FUMBBL for all your respective contributions. I count myself lucky to be amongst you.

Be wary of what you wish for.. you are only playing right into Nuffle's pestilence ridden hands.

It's nice to read such an all-round "I'm happy with blood bowl!" blog. There should be more of these. =D

I also got (not back) into tabletop BB through fumbbl. It's fun, and different, and largely complementary. Enjoy the experience!

Nice blog entry. I have a minor touch of the same going on, now that I've picked TV's in box that are lower and Ranked play in general. BloodBowl is fun again. Keep it up!

Great that you are going to play some tabletop - if you're London based you should certainly be able to get some practice games in before the tournery, you know, for dice rolling practice :)
