I would have gone with either Dirty Player or Block for that thrall.
Also, vampires want RRs. Bad, even if you haven't experienced it yet. Get that fifth RR, you'll be fine with 3 vamps for now.

Get a re-rolls and thralls and nothing else for a while, you still have one expendable vamp, you don't need more than 2 vamps for a while yet.

reroll
Posted by Cloggy on 2010-04-16 13:37:22
Aye, get the reroll.
It's so much harder to get to 140k than to get money for a new vampire later on.
Better get the rr's in first

Sure hands is not great for thralls as you find vamps are often the primary ball carrier. I would always go DP.
Save for the reroll!

Tbh i would make the unhelpful but accurate suggestion (as i see) that if you need to be asking these type of questions with a Vampire team that perhaps your not yet ready to be playing such a team...

reroll
you dont need more than 2 vamps on the pitch at a time, so go for 3 for a while.
get dp on 2-3 thralls, than some with block, perhaps tackle.

Barring doubles and stats, I divide thralls up roughly 50/50 between DP and Block->Tackle. While vamps can take MB on a regular roll, they have a lot of other good options that get taken first, leaving not a lot of hitting power for the team. DP is a big tool for you to remove players. The Block/Tackle thralls are for dealing with Dodgy teams, since most of your vampires are even less interested in Tackle than they are in MB.
If you get a +AG thrall, Sure hands is a good option, because he'll be a more reliable ball retriever than an OFAB-prone vamp (though still a quishier carrier).

People already told you before that you had too many vampires and not enough thralls and rerolls. 3 vamps is quite enough, maybe even still too many at your TR. Thralls and rerolls it is!

Buy a RR, no vamps, period.
Posted by Zombie69 on 2010-04-16 16:23:50
As for skills, thralls need dirty player (followed by kick or block) or block (followed by tackle). Unless a thrall has AG4, there's no point in taking sure hands.
And like Warmaster says, you should play more straightforward races until you get more comfortable with the basics of the game.

i just want to add how fundamentally i disagree with warmaster and zombie there:
whenever you have fun, you are ready to play vampires
Posted by Cavetroll on 2010-04-16 17:29:19
RR and more thralls. Vampires can come later, as many have already suggested.
One thing I would add that I haven't seen anyone say is this - next time you want advice on what skill to take, it might be better to ask BEFORE you take the skill, not after :)
As for whether or not you are ready to play vamps, I'd say if you made a team and played some games, you are ready. Just understand that the learning process for vampires is more painful than with many other races.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts.
Let me tell you, in all candor, that some of the comments sound a little judgmental and condescending, but that I still appreciate them all.
:)

I started with Vamps and I think they're cool. Play what you enjoy.
I also disagree with the prevailing wisdom that 2-3 vamps is always enough.
HOWEVER You still shouldn't even consider getting a 4th *yet*. My vamps start with 5RR minimum and I get the 6th (which si enough) asap. Once you have your 6RR and a bunch of thralls with some skills foalting about then you want to start trying for the4th and 5th vampires (you need some pro to make that work and pro shouldn't be in the first two skills for any vamp).
Even if you drop down to 2 vamps you shouldn't be buying vamps yet: you want at least two more thralls first (and you'll need to replace at least one by then) -you might ultimately have fewer thralls [or you might join the prevailing opinion that 4 vamps is plenty] but (especially without block), it's keeping them around that is going to be challenging.

I would advise sticking with 3 vamps for now and pick up the RR, nothing wrong with picking sure hands on a thrall as you dont want to always score with the vamps as the team will become unbalanced. Score with thralls wherever possible.
2 or 3 dps are a good idea as well as you are gonna need the numbers advantage :)

Thralls.
Posted by Arktoris on 2010-04-19 05:02:09
go with 4 vampires. The hypnotic gaze is what makes that team good. the more hypnotizers, the better. screw rerolls, the thralls are suppose to die. that's their job.
