Spellcheck - the 'hut enters the discussion
This almost starts as a joke - a murican, an austrian and two limeys are arguing about the correct spelling of dwarves.

Unfortunately the whole thing lacks a punchline, though. In fact, I had half a mind of not writing this blog entry, as it is sure to sully my track record of 4.x blog posts - this one doesn't pertain to Bloodbowl and is more of a gripe anyway. You are allowed to read this, imagining a shrill voice for once, as misspellings are one of my pet peeves.

Let's review what the other people said in their blogs:

Calcium - "Spellcheck": Huh? Is it dwarfs or is it dwarves? I always wrote dwarves, but now I am confused.

Sillysod - "Spellcheck - revised": Well, technically it's dwarfs, but either spelling is fine.

Dominik - "Spellcheck, the third": Wikipedia says it's dwarfs, but Tolkien established dwarves for the plural of the fantasy race, so on fumbbl it should be dwarves."

shadow46x2 - "Spellcheck - checkmate": Hogwash! On fumbbl it should be dorfs!

Well, as a foreigner, I want to be able to write flawless english and while I occasionally make a mistake, I do trust my intuition when it comes to languages. So I am not in doubt like Calcium or have to consult wikipedia on this as Dominik has. Just like Sillysod, I have an answer on this, but mine deviates from his:

Plural in english is mostly with an added s, which would suggest that dwarfs is correct. However, words ending in f are usually pluralised by replacing the f with ves.

shelf - shelves
wharf - wharves
hoof - hooves (however it's roof - roofs)

therefore it's quite obvious that it's also
elf - elves
dwarf - dwarves

Thank you for your patience and consideration. Do carry on.
