Ranked vs Blackbox, what happened?
So as my last post said i just came back from another lon blood bowl break. Now when i stopped Ranked was TEH SHIZZLE and blackbox was ->hf play dwarfs vs khemri and cd. And ranked was vastly more populair.

Nowadays everyone is playing on blackbox, so what happended to cause this?

Personal note, i like blackbox about 10x more than ranked. But i do see ranked has alot value for people who really build their team with lore, and fluff and all(i do love me some hellbound charioteers).

But just for a game i think BB is pretty brilliant

(this is not ranked vs blackbox which is better)

Black box changed over to the new client first. I think a lot of new people started playing there, the numbers have always been consistent and its easier to get a game. Also it is the most similar to MM on cyanides game so a lot of people that defected from cyanide will probably be used to it.

Also IMO the new rule set suits B more now you get journeymen and inducements so there is no reason not to play with squishy teams :)

I think there are a few main reasons why Blackbox is more popular now.

1) Blackbox was the first division to go FFB, so gained some players that do not care what division they are in, as long as they play BB.

2) LRB 6 rules (both inducements and journeymen) do go some way to making the Blackbox enviroment type of game more fun.

3) Blackbox has it's own tournaments now, which was one of the huge benefits ranked always used to have over Blackbox.

I do think a large part of it though is people not wishing to move from the highest populated area. When Ranked was big many stayed in Ranked and didn't try Blackbox. When FFB launched in Blackbox many coaches started playing there and, with Ranked being quiter, found it difficult to go back to the whole 'searching for a game' thing in a smaller pool of players.

Hope that kind of makes sense, as it probably won't even to me if I read it back!

Blackbox had a hard time in LRB4 because ranked was the default division and the number of teams activating was often not very high. So not only did the concept have to convince people of its validity enough to CHANGE their default behaviour, but the implementation was also handicapped by not being as good as it could have been.

Giving the Box a head start was the best thing that could have happened in this regard. It started at full potential and only has to KEEP people attracted as opposed to attracting them in the first place, which is presumably harder as we're creatures of habit.

cos playing box is like a kid a Xmas.

the joy is in opening the present.

will one get a evil CLAWPOMB killer team, or some rats coached by a noob who has given his linerats break tackle?

who knows, but i love the suspense!

I still don't really get the blackbox rage. 75% of people play bashing teams, you're not 100% garaunteed to get a game. For me, I just like having more control over who my team plays, and challenging is more in line with the blood bowl spirit, in my opinion.

And Jimmyfanstic and the other disciples of Studbrothingiebadspelling are what's brought R back to 100 games per day.

Thanks boys.

Control over who you play indeed. I've tried to get games for my 1000 tv wood elves, 90% of the time I am ignored/declined. Even asked Monkeyman once (though it might have been my old necro team, I forget) and got nothing. Same old same old for me in ranked. I would like to keep a tournament team or two ready in that division, but I aint holding my breath.

cloggy, i've played lots of B of late and have not met any of the dudebro's. they are there, of course, but so are lots of other normal coaches too.

I think that both the divisions are fine.
[B] Let you to have matches avoiding cherrypicking and without waiting, it allows you to build your team in a fearsome way an noone can say you that he refuses to play but the game in [B] it's less various, Bashing is the game there.

[R] Let you have a more various game, you can have fast paced matches and bloody battles but you have to ask for a match, wait and so and so.

From my point of view [B] it's ok only when i look for a fast match, i don't like the idea of Pro-Building that in a such competitive and sometimes Lame eviroment is required so usually i play more often [R].

Another problem is also that [B] is less friendly, you don't need to say hello, just start and bash. Personally i prefer [R] but both are OK to me
