Whinny first Blog Post regarding: Fouling...
Hi there fumbbl people. I am fairly new to the site and to the sport as a whole, the games you can see in my account are all i ever played.

And my first blog post ever is about a guy who fouled me...

So, I had to learn that my little Guys can and will die.
I had to learn that there are plenty Teams out there build more or less for teaching that to coaches.
I had to learn that i enjoy bashing to and started building a chaos team.
Oh, and i learned about fouling. Biuld myself a fouler, use him now and then.

So, fouling. It doesnt give SSP, is quite riskless and can be devastating. Taking all this into account i would have thought that there would be rules that everyone could accept and would think of as logical and...normal?

After playing my last opponent i just want to ask some others: Is this "acceptable" behaviour? Or is it, like i think, not good sportsmanship?

http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=match&op=view&id=3224492

In short: two basher teams meet and the better coach gets the upper hand. he reduces my team rather fast, while i make a td. 2nd half 4 of my guys are left, 3 after first turn. None of them is a killer (leader, block, block/guard), its 2/2 and he starts fouling my guys of the pitch. I conceded a rewarded him with some ssp for that.

So, my CW with -AV isnt the matter. I said i would concede before i knew that. I can stand my little guys dieing by now, i will stand this injury^^.

I just wanted to know if i am seeing this wrong, if i have to play with guys that think this is ok more often here or what i can do about that. Oh, and i wanted to start my time here at fumbble by becoming known as a notorius whiner :)

Thanks for reading.

TLDR: Dont foul like a d***, foul like a man

The sooner you accept that fouling is a part of the game, the better. Sorry if that makes me sound like a jerk.. :)

Oh you was playing Bill, I dont really have to say any more.

He hardly uses any race that dont have claw as a normal skill, I wander why.

Why did you concede? You basically paid Bill for beating up your team. Never concede, just try your hardest to take someone down with you.

I conceded because he had 10 man and 6 rounds to foul my last 2 players of the pitch... Just felt like conceding^^

He only fouled you 3 times. That's not really that many. Turn 16 fouls are when you can call someone a di*khead. :). It's a risky part of the game some coaches gamble some don't.

You're 2 editions too late to moan about fouling really. Can't wait to read your clawpomb blog in a few weeks.

I've BB use woodies, pros and vamps a fair bit KL and the team doesn't really change his approach to the game.

Bottom line is, you don't like it, don't play box.

You'll get over it eventually.

Mh. I didnt think that i would be everybodys darling with my point, but i *did* believe everyone that answers here would at least read my whole post? and try to answer to any point of it?

@ BCH : If its 3 times doesnt matter. Could be 8 times and nothing to object. Its the situation. Why is a turn 16foul any better than a foul to a totaly helpless opponent that cant damage you a bit?

@ Harvestmouse: Like i said, read my post? I do have clawpomb CDs. I am building a killer Chaos team. I dont object to the violence. My post is more about spirit...
btw, "bottom line is...donĀ“t play box". So you really ment to give a beginner the advice to play ranked and choose his opponents or something, it just sounded like "go away", right?

All in all this is a strange exprience. Maybe my first blogpost shouldnt have been a whine, but reading your answers it becomes clear that fumbbl isnt the easiest community to get into. yes pythrr, i emo much.

Welcome to the BB 'A' class mate. If you can't handle the hardcore nature of the Blackbox, then goto league/ranked where games can be managed better.

As a rule fouling is viewed as acceptable at any time now, although there will always be coaches that are far left/right of the norm. Harvestmouse is right though, you're 2 editions too late for a fouling rant. I actually prefer my guys being fouled to getting clawPOMBed!

I read your blog, and I've read it again. I can't see where you mentioned clawpomb CDs......

If I wanted you gone, it wouldn't be as soft as as a blog comment :)

As Calcium said, that's the nature of box. Box was set up as no questions asked, no quarter given gaming. You want an instant game, not fussed what you play, you play box. Personally, it's not for me. And if you don't like some aspects of the game, it's probably not for you either.

The FUMBBL community has heard 1000 times a noob moaning about fouling. In fact I'd say most are anti it, at first. I've left a lot of my earlier views on my profile, including my early view on it. Nobody really wants to hear about it, as the issue has been discussed to death and is boring. On top of all this, the thing is............it's not even worth discussing anymore, as fouling was a bad doggy in 4 that was taken to the vets and came back minus a few bits.

As for the community, it's no easier no harder than any online community. There's a groove. You come in the right way they're pretty welcoming. You rub them up the wrong way, then it's likely to be abrasive.

I guess the original question is why foul when you are not getting anything out of it? Yes it is allowed but why do it?

A few options:
- it's fun to make others sad
- it makes the team weaker for the future
- you might force them to concede

foul like a d***, foul like a man.

fixed it for you
Posted by Calcium on 2011-11-18 22:25:07
Sann0638...

How about another option

It's a big part of the basis of the game! This whole game is about encouraging illegal activity and trying to get away with it. What part of that are coaches missing???

Fouling becomes so much more fun when you accept it as fluff...

Besides, it's always fun fouling someone and giving them a groin sprain :)

These are nasty, nasty people. Don't let them bother you.

You can tell that they are nasty people by the fact that they enjoy playing a game with "Blood" in the name. A clear sign of nastiness.

Come and join 145 Club.
We're still nasty but not quite as efficient at it. ;)

I have to say though, in the poster's defence. I don't appreciate being fouled when everythings been wrapped up and there's nothing to gain from it. It isn't really very sporting in my opinion.
Posted by JimmyFantastic on 2011-11-18 22:53:59
Once your opponent is reduced to 3 men you have a duty to clear the pitch.
Also any blocks may cause a random cas on your team, so it is entirely reasonable to try to limit these as much as possible.

I didn't bother to watch the replay but i'd foul a player to try to encourage them to stand up so i can bash them. I'd also foul a player so i felt more secure and could choose not to stall and possibly get more TDs and Spps. I generally don't kick a beaten opponent when he's down but i've learned that in blood bowl that comebacks can be done with the most unlikeliest of dice rolls, i've done it and i've had it done to me. I don't block because it gives me spps, i block because it's part of the game, same with fouls really, :)

I'm fairly new to Fumbbl too man, don't let they way people say things detract from what they're saying. Have a quick search of the forums and i'm sure you'll see that Fouling in turn 16 or against severely bashed up opponents has been discussed probably more than once. :)

From a fluff point of view fouling is commonplace and it's actually good odds of it taking your own player off and causing a turnover. A Snotling isn't likely to be able to kill say Morg or Griff with blocking and it's suicidal to try but a foul, with a bunch of assists, sure. And if he kills Morg, that Snotling is an epic player and it matters not one jot that he didn't get spps.

Fouling's no big deal man, in this game: http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=match&op=view&id=3224256 i actually encouraged my opponent to foul because it would clear the pitch (which i think everyone should manage at least once) and ultimately if i had a player killed then no harm no foul if you pardon the pun. Losing players lowers tv which means an easier game next while recovering and throwaway players to soak up any casualties. Box/s a perpetual league system so team development can handle massive drops in tv or effectiveness and still recover.

While I would have originally agreed with you re: unsporting behaviour sportsmanship is a very subjective concept And in box it is ultra competitive no nonsense take no prisoners attitude that prevails. I like the ease of getting a game in box but I also like the fact that Ranked is more "sporting" but no less competitive.

Don't take the fouling or folks comments to heart, it's no big deal, it's only another example of the craziness that is BloodBowl. :D

He was trying to clear the pitch. When you're trying to clear the pitch, you can do anything you want; t16 fouls, t16 crowdsurfs, ignoring the ball to kill soem moar, anything.

The solution? Don't get your numbers low enough that clearing the pitch is an option. Dice don't let you do that sometimes, but in general it's a good thing to try :P
