Bad sportsmanship is what i wittnessed in a case where both Germans and Croatians showed good sportsmanship.
What happened?
Well, in a sailing event (49er), the danish boat was in a comfortable lead before the start of last race to decide who gets the gold medal.
The danish boat got a broken mast before racestart when sailing to the starting line. They got their boat back to shore but were unable to fix it. Instead the Croatians lended their boat to the danish, who then started around 4 minutes after the others (notice that limit is 5 minutes).
After a great race they actually managed to get in on 7th place (out of 10). That meant that the danes actually won the total.
After that the Spanish team contested the decision to let the danish team lend another teams boat (the croatians had actually been knocked out earlier). The Germans (who got bronze instead of silver) replied to the question of why they hadnt protested: "Let the medals be won on the water instead of by the desk".
The protest by the spanish team was rejected. Now they are going even futher, saying that the jury deciding this isnt worth anything (becourse they decided against them?).
It is worth mentioning that the jury had delayed the decision due to the complexitivity of the problem. (rules didnt state anything wether it is legal to lend another boat or not)
Now in polls at least (ofcourse not the fairplaying spanish on this site) say that 90%!!!! of the spanish people thinks that they have been robbed of a medal...
Btw i believe its not the sailers themselves who protest, they have even congratulated (and accepted their defeat).
