I'd be filled with patriotic pride if they hadn't sacked the Americans and replaced them with Brits to make it happen... http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2013/sep/26/ben-ainslie-britain-americas-cup
Still, there was one local on the team so I guess it counts. :D

Sir Ben Ainslie, greatest American sailor all times.

I wish they would do it on real sailing ships again. Like, ships that don't break and kill a man when there's a wave.

c'mon granddad... "real sailing ships" - like Columbus used?
Not for me thanks, this competition is all about pushing the limits of technology. Well done to Sir Ben and the other "Americans". :)

no, the competition is, pretty much, about who has a spare 200 million of so to burn trying to put their name on a cup. Kinda of counts most people/countries/continents out.

kim dot com is going to run our team next time, so watch out americans!

Btw... after reading about the 'American' team, I kinda wish the Kiwis won :(

It was an unbelievable come back.
The loose nationality thing is becoming a problem in many sports which is devaluing international level sports, but if it helps bring the world a tiny step closer in the long run then so be it.
As for the money.....like Motor Racing....this is a sport that holds little interest for me. A sport that almost exclusively relies on the equipment your in is not a real sport to me. I am a strong believer that advantage once the whistle/gun goes should be from the competitors not the kit.
At least you know when you watch the javelin or shot putt that the athletes are using the same spec of equipment, and that it's a fair competition (assuming drugs testing is clear)
In football (soccer) some teams buy better players, but it comes down to 11 men on pitch and we have seen so many times the big spenders beaten by the underdogs.
In motor sport like F1 I don't think a small spending team have ever won a title.
