TackleZone Star Divisions on FUMBBL
When legendary figures dream - amazing things happen!

The History?

In 2019 the blood bowl legend that is KFoged dreamed of a League run on a resurrection basis using NAF style rules. The dream was also shared by commentator, website designer and occasional player - Wulfyn. They didn't know if there would be any interest - but much like Kevin Costner in Field of Dreams - they built it and people came!

It is now in its 3rd season and already there are many who would say that Tacklezone Star Divisions is the highest quality Blood Bowl league anywhere in the world!

But if gods achieve huge things when they dream - they can also be guilty of making huge mistakes!! And of course KFoged made a huge mistake when he set up TSD.... because he set it up in the dark lands of Blood Bowl 2!!

Now even the mighty can only achieve so much - whilst KFoged is distracted by Blood Bowl projects far and wide there is little or no chance of TSD being expanded to FUMBBL - even though many of us have begged and begged and begged!

The Plan?

Much like in the myths of ancient Greece when gods and legends stumble - it is up to us mortals to pick up the slack. So with permission from KFoged and Wulfyn, with the promise of some support from PC (and others) - I am proposing to start a franchise of TSD here on FUMBBL.

The version on BB2 is currently capped at 64 players (with a waiting list - 1 in/ 1 out), it uses the Eurobowl ruleset and they play 1 game every two weeks. The competition is split into 8 groups of 8. With the top 2 from each group progressing to the play offs.

However season 1 - was capped at a lower number and used a simpler ruleset in order to test the concept. I think I would follow this and cap the first season at 24 or (if there was enough interest) 36 coaches. A smaller number should allow us to squeeze it in before the new addition.

I'd like Snotlings and OWA to be playable so again season 1 I'd probably use a rule set more similar to NAFC. Makes it easy to slot OWA in as tier 2 and Snotlings as tier 3.

So to clarify?

I am proposing to start a new competition in League.

It is a resurrection style league open to all - but with a capped number of players.

Teams will be given 1.1 million gold to spend and some starting skills based on which Tier they fall into.

The competition will be split into groups - with the top team from each qualifying for the play offs.

Each game week will last 2 weeks.

Once the league finishes - coaches who leave will be replaced.. everyone submits new teams ... and we go again.

Who the hell am I?

For those that dont know me - I've been involved in the creation and running of a large table top league - Wargamers of Wolverhampton League of Fear (WOWLOF), the initial running of Tournament of Fear (ToF) and I created the Online League of Fear (OLOF) on BB2 - You'll notice a theme!!

I also played in the first 2 seasons of TSD! I only left because I developed a serious distaste of BB2 (I kept getting heavily beaten :-))

Anyway I'm a reasonably nice guy - with genuine enthusiasm for the game who has experience of running things. This is my first journey into running something on FUMBBL but they seems to be loads of people willing to help (more always welcome) so I'm confident that we can make this work.

Oh and of course because I'm running it - it shall be called TackleZone Star Divisions of Fear - TSDOF - which Wulfyn and KFoged also havent objected to.

So Why am I blogging?

Are people interested?
Will people play?
Could you do it better?
Is it even needed?

Please comment or PM me or whatever.

Thanks for reading

Sounds great. I’d enjoy playing some more NAF style games but can’t commit to whole weekends of back to back Blood Bowl (BBBB). A game every two weeks is perfect.

I’ve really enjoyed playing TSD on BB2. But Fumbbl is my favourite online platform. Count me in.

I’m in. If it’s anything near as successful as the events you have previously run it’ll be amazing.

love me some NAF style BB, and what could be better than doing it on FUMBBL, where i can try new builds and next season try something else?

2016 or 2020 rosters/rulesets to start? Or a transition at some point?

Thank you for all the positive energy guys - it is fantastic.

I count German, Danish, Welsh and Irish internationals as well as a Blitz Pit winner and Black Box Trophy Winner.

So that answers question 1 - regarding interest... Ive noted all the name of people who have posted here. I'll message you all when I've got the league set up.

C0ddlefish Season 1 would be BB2016. Assuming GW is working to the timescales we think they are, Season 2 would be BB2020. There wouldnt really be a transition as such because there is no progression on the teams.

Interested, but would it be an inconvenience due to my North American time zone? I'm UTC-8 but flexible if that works.

All sounds fun - count me in too

Big news - Justicium and Arioso (the two winners of the BB2 version) have both indicated that they'd like to take part.

We've definitely got enough people to run it now - so expect news soon.

Warpstone - it is completely your call. The majority of interest seems to be from Euro time zones - so currently UTC +1/ +2. I guess that means most games would be early afternoon for you? If you can work with that then great. If not, maybe we'll have to look at setting up a US version.

it's ok for me !
Posted by sebco on 2020-09-01 22:51:56

Thanks for sharing on the French eurobowl group Justicium/ Sebco.

I've done everything needed to set the league up I've just got a couple people testing that I've done it right :-).

Should be ready to accept teams at the weekend and get started around 14th September .

Depending on how life is, I might be around for season 2. Poke me as and when that happens.
