well at least coming from a magic card player point of view "meta" or "meta game" is using the theory of the game that most people build their decks around to be the most successful in tourney play or even casual play.

building a "meta deck" is usually researched online from tourney participants and other commentary to build successful decks.

so meta in blood bowl would follow the same style I would think, running the best teams out there or team builds that are usually successful.

a meta group would be a group put together to discuss such things, compete using the meta discussed, etc.

Not in this case, swampy. Humies in the Box are a tough road to travel, but satisfying for all that (HLP).

Elf is to remove the perception that Elves only play other Elves.

And ARR was an initiative during CRP to get the least played races some love.

I had two additional Meta groups on my list. But they aren't meta groups in the same way. The first I could argue for more strenuously:

A meta-game is a game outside of the game actually being played. Often this takes the form of what Swampserpent was talking about, building a deck/team to counter what can be expected of other people to play, essentially playing a larger game of prediction and preparation outside of the actual game you are playing.

In the case of groups like this, meta tends to refer to the fact that you are competing in a game with special rule (only use humans over a 16 game period for the HLP for example) against others playing with the same rules outside of the game of blood bowl itself.

Those three are certainly the big ones. Human League seems pretty much dead though, not sure about ARR. Arguably the Black Box Trophy has replaced them. By Drrek's definition the Trophy would be a meta group, too, even though it's implemented directly on the site.
