Tried out the Cyanide's BB
...and I must say that it was fun! I bet it'll be as addictive for me as good ol' FUMBBL :)

I played a few games against AI and....
The user interface was a bit "crowded" and difficult at times, but it is something that one must try and learn before making any hasty judgements. I found it to be quite sufficient to see the dicerolls etc. from the list (at the bottom of the screen), but I don't know how it would work if there was a chat-screen as well...have to try. Infact, I was looking at the infolist just to see what rolls the game made, just to learn the mind of it :) I'm not looking at the rolls when I'm playing FUMBBL either, so for me it shouldn't pose any problems.

Moving and making actions with the players wasn't difficult for me, but at times I had to change the viewing angle to be able to point the square where I wanted to push a player for example (as I used the 45 degree camera angle). I bet there's an easier way to make the moves in crowded situations, maybe with the keyboard...have to check that out also. And what comes to the limited view of the field... Well, that's something that should've been done better. Sometimes I forgot that I even had more players on the field...they just were near my own EZ. If you change to the 90 degree view (from straight up) you can see more of the field but the distance grows as well (naturally). So, as a quick way to see more of the field that 90 deg. view is OK and maybe easier/quicker than the normal scrolling.

Also the players stats & info -viewing should be better. For example, it would've been fine by me if when you click on a player a stats & info -screen would come into view over the diceroll-screen and disappear when an action is made.

I also have to do some reading, because I'm not too familiar with the LRB5.0 which is used in the game (if you choose to use the classic rules). Though it was fun finding out some things by accident and error :D

I wasn't expecting too much of the Cyanide's version, but I don't think it's all THAT bad. Some will like it, some won't. I'm not going to compare it with FUMBBL. Firstly, because the Cyanide's game is not made for only PC users. There are certain limitations with consoles and I bet they had to do some compromises. Sure they are able to put all the same controls etc. in the game for all platforms, but to keep it playable on all of them, that's the trick. Ofcourse they're able to do (and certainly will do) a console-conversion of the game and leaving some things out just to make it playable...but how far can they go without spoiling the whole game?

Its called "trial and error" mate, not "accident and error", although i would think, that the term you just made would suit Bloodbowl better. All those skinks and goblins dodging, failing and dieing by "accident". I remember quite a few of those. :P

Concerning the LRB 5.0 - its great that you can use more than 1 RR within your turn. It sucks, that you cant chain push the enemy players, to surf them... There is a lot more to that, but i would prolly have start a blog myself to talk about all the pros and cons.

Thanks for the review concerning Cyanide's BB, there is some useful info there.

Hahahaha!
Thought someone might take that as an add, but I have to disappoint you ;P But if I really was a marketer...who is Ballcrusher working for then? :D I got the idea for a blog from reading his blog about the same game :) Maybe this is just one big, evil, cunning plan to confuse people...

For me FUMBBL and Cyanide's version of BB are so much different that I'm not going to compare them against each other. I was just pointing out things that I liked and didn't like about it :) Even if I'd like the Cyanide's version so much that I'd go and buy it, I'll STILL be using FUMBBL! As a whole, FUMBBL is something that can't be competed with...it's UNIQUE!

I know, it normally is "trial and error", but this time it really was by "accident and error" :) Hmm..."trial and TERROR". Sounds like some goblin-made gadget that - to everyone's surprise - works and spreads havoc on the field :D

Hehe I'm not working for anyone (well not anyone with interests in blood bowl games)... I was just really, really dissapointed with Cyanide's poor game. But everyone is of course welcome to buy the game and try it out for themselves. However, I won't be playing much of Cyanides game unless they improve the game considerably.
