No nubs allowed in the GLT
I like the idea of different types of qualifier. Nice little bit of flavour/strategy before the tourney. However, each of the categories pretty much guarantees seeing the same familiar faces in this GLT. Highest CR is obvious. Highest TR means pickers and birthday trash, oldest teams means the Nandorins, Bunnies, Roles, etc. The 'forlorn' races might seem like the way to go, but the winners of these qualis won't get past the first round of the tournament proper. There's a reason why these races haven't won a major yet. I also see the winners of this group being experienced coaches with their pet vamps (like sillysod) or bloated CDs.

So other than a couple of miracles, the GLT finals will be filled with the same coaches as every other major. I was planning on entering but with 260-270 TR in 50 games before the tourney starts I don't stand much of a chance getting in the qualifier with Orcs, much less winning a game against pickers and the Brotherhood.

Thumbs down to the new qualifier format.

People like to whine.

Play for fun.

With majors I think its best just to aim to win a qualifier... winning a major outright is too unlikely and requires you to win qualifiers anyway.

While the new format might not change the odds for the favourites it can definately change your odds of winning a qualifier if you choose it right. e.g. if you had a powerful human team then you'd probably stand a much higher chance if you entered the forlorn races category... the competition there will still be extremely high but you do cut out the chances of meeting the Competitive Eaters and anything run by PeteW.

Two sides of the coin here.

Of course, if you enter a major and haven't "built" a team the way some do and you draw them, you're going to have a hard time and better be in it for fun rather than seriousness.

Other side, at least in 'Forlorn' you'll have a bash rather than open qualifiers where you could get anything.

If you don't want to play a TR250 + team with 200k banked run by ruthless, hardcore major coaches, then don't enter a major. It's not difficult!

Majors are what majors are. Never let someone else tell you how to have fun, whether it be the [B] uber alles brigade, me banging on that [L] is FTW, whatever. Major hype only gets to those that care about majors, the rest of us just enjoy the fallout!

Maybe I should clarify, I think a good qualifier format would encourage new coaches and give underdogs a chance. The seeded tour format is a good example. I understand that I'll be playing against big teams with big treasuries, which is why I've been building my own, but the new format means that the team I've been building won't even qualify for the qualifiers!

Purp and Silly, thanks for the replies, you make decent points. I still don't like the new format ;)
