Good summary. I always thought (probably wrongly) Min referred to Min TV. I suppose they require less in-game effort though as they work in the team management.

Mix/Max terminology dates back to earlier gaming where you were given a finite amount of resources/traits/gold and a variety of things to spend on. The goal was to maximize your gains by minimizing spending on things you don't need.
The prototypical argument is the old D&D character creation. Dump all you could into your primary stat(s) and trade away anything else you might be able to bargain away for more of the same. No attempt is made at rounding out a character or providing balance, just going guns'a'blazing at what you're best at (with the goal of being brokenly good at it).

Its Minimum TV for Maximum Value. so you can play rookie teams with a giant killer claw pombing rat or full blodge zons

"I can't be certain this is the exact root of the term here on FUMBBL, but it seems to be the way that at least one coach uses it."

Minmax; not the definition I'd use, or the original meaning of the term, but meh, whatever. Emo? Not a good definition at all. The word has, eventually, come to mean roughly the same as goth, but (like goth), this is a misuse by a wider population years after the original subculture which coined the term had pretty much stopped using it. And the original subcultures had no connection whatsoever. Emo was not 'the child of Gothic music'. Jeebus. This is exactly why middle-aged men shouldn't try to talk about what youngsters are into.

Not that guy. Isn't that guy "screamo"?

I always thought Emo's evolution went something like this: Rites of Spring (hardcore subculture) -> Sunny Day Real Estate (indie subculture) -> Dashboard Confessional (mainstream) -> whatever it is that people are into these days... Blood on the Dancefloor?

Oh sure, if you want to read the wikipedia entry.

Wikipedia? I'm just a Rites of Spring / Sunny Day Real Estate fan ;)

Would Death Cab for Cutie count as emo?
Posted by xnoelx on 2013-03-14 21:16:28
Yeah winter, that's a lot closer. And nowadays the term is very loose, so you could probably throw Death Cab in there if you wanted to, but mostly no.

Emo - its funny that the ones who use it the most seem to fit it the most. Where as most of us couldn't care.

Death Cab is awesome. (So is piling on?)
Posted by lizvis on 2013-03-15 09:16:07
death cab sucks

I do not understand why you even made this. You can find both terms on wikipedia.
But since people seem to like poor made up definitions:
Chicken - An animal with the appearance of a bird but can't fly and therefore isn't a bird but for eating.

Wintergreen has 'emo' spot on; OP does not.
