Zhang Xinyan was a drinking buddy of former Panda Blitzer Chen Tzu who caught the Bloodbowl-bug while listening to his friend talk about his experiences on the pitch. After Chen Tzu retired, he shared one last mug of ale with Zhang before wandering off. The very next day Zhang showed up at the Panda training and asked to join the team. Since Chen Tzus loss has left the team one blitzer short, Zhang was recruited right away and keeps the tradition of Drunken Blocking alive.
Zhang introduced himself to the league by scoring a touchdown in his debut. He has continued scoring touchdowns, three in eleven games, more than any Panda Blitzer before him except for the legendary Bamboo Ninja, who also scored 3 touchdowns in his short career but only needed 4 games for it.
Possibly his best touchdown was the last turn 2-1 winning touchdown against Bastet in round 12 of season 2, where Po cleared the ball, Jing Jing picked it up and accurately delivered the short pass to Zhang Xinyan, who was left unmarked and who barely, with two extra steps, made it into the amazons endzone before time ran out.
After Mei Xiangs unfortunate death, Zhang Xinyan took up using his old friends former boots which were custom made with extra-long spikes that dig deep into the pitch and make the wearer very hard to push back. As a result, Zhang Xinyan stands as firm as Mei Xiang did when he was alive.
His name means "Bites Back".
