First: please change the title of your blog. Trying to compare a no-swearing policy you disagree with to racism is too far a stretch to possibly make. Asking people in an online chat room to not say ‘WTF’ is not even in the same stratosphere as real racism.
Second: saying that language equals culture and then taking that to mean that restricting you from saying ‘WTF’ is an attack on your culture is beyond silly. In every context of life language is restricted. In school or work we’re all restricted in the language we use.
Third: it’s entirely unfair to attack Christer for not speaking English as his first language. FUMBBL is an exclusively English environment. There are chat rooms for other languages, but all official FUMBBL documents are in English. That enough should be proof that Christer does indeed understand the language. Even if his English isn’t as proficient as ours, it doesn’t mean that he isn’t able to understand the words he’s banning and the contexts in which they appear.
You attack Christer for being racist when he bans you from saying things that imply f#$%, yet you argue that non-native English speakers should not be allowed to make rules regarding language. Why shouldn’t they be able to? Isn’t it a form of racism to say that not-native speakers should steer clear of English language issues?
Anyways, that’s all I really have to say. This is not meant to be a criticism of the original author, who I don’t actually know in any way, only a criticism of that individual post.
