Lizardmen vs Lizardman
I started playing my Helena High again and just lost to some LizardMAN. I checked my vs race stats to see if I still had a positive record vs that race. But it seems that during the teams nearly 500 games they only played that race twice. BUT they played LizardMEN 21 times.
I looked at the other races names and it is singularis. Human, Orc and so on. So was it a misstake before? Or what happend? Have Jarvis (or Christer(or Kalimar(or Lakrillo))) created a new race? The fearsome LizarMAN(s) and deleted the kind LizardMEN?

Anybody knows?
It disturbs me to have a loosing record vs the 25th race, LizardMAN(s).

Ha ha! Lone Stars have a winning reccord vs the feared Lizardman's bt a loosing reccord vs there Lizardmen's counterpart.

hmmm maybe we should all be politically correct and call them lizardfolk
Posted by Ancre on 2011-02-26 01:05:13
Woodstock assume it's a typo. I believe it'll get fixed when Christer have time for it. I think he have more important issues right now :)

Lizardmen have Sauri, Lizardmans have Saurusses.

There is another new race named Nurgle and somehow the race Nurgle's Rotters disappeared.
Posted by James_Probert on 2011-02-26 10:26:56
shouldn't it be saurii, not sauri?
Posted by PigStar-69 on 2011-02-26 10:34:34
makes grid filling a real challenge now :-D
Posted by Rijssiej on 2011-02-26 12:22:23
Yeah, grid filling can now only be done if you don't have the Lizardmen or Nurgle's Rotters in your statistics because they can never play the new races.

James: no, Sauri is right if it's 2nd Declension latin. The plural of Dominus is Domini, not Dominii, so Saurus would be Sauri. Full format would be:

Singular:
Nominative: Saurus (Subject)
Vocative: Saure ("Oh Saurus")
Accusative: Saurum (Object)
Genitive: Sauri (Posessive)
Dative: Sauro (to or for the saurus)
Ablative: Sauro (by, with or from the saurus)

Plural:
Sauri
Sauri
Sauros
Saurorum
Sauris
Sauris

However, if it's 4th Declension then it would be:

Saurus
Saurus
Saurum
Saurus
Saurui
Sauru

Saurus
Saurus
Saurus
Sauruum
Sauribus
Sauribus

In this case the nominative plural of Saurus (the form generally taken for anglicised plurals) would be Saurus.

I'm assuming Saurus is a regular masculine noun in every case.

cthol, that reminded me of the time when i had to study latin in high school. Tough 2 years :)

This again? Chtol, no offence, but you are obviously in the dark. It is Sauraii. Check here for a lengthy explanation: http://fumbbl.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=17023

Nice work though.

lol, that's pretty waffly and off topic, but SAURIAIANIANS looks good to me :) Yeah, I buy the idea that we don't need etymology nazis for fantasy lizards, but I like having the names grounded in some sort of reality, so I'll continue to use the boring but Latinate SAURI.

Ooh. unless it's actually Greek, and a corruption of SAUROS, in which case the plural would be SAUROI. Still, Latin borrowed much of its grammatical structure from Greek in any case, and the similarity between SAURUS / SAURI and SAUROS / SAUROI is so close as to be probably mutually intelligible. To a certain extent, Latin is Greek with an Italian accent. Not as close as Irish and Scots Gaelic, or, say, Swedish and Danish, but closer than English and German. Maybe similar to Spanish and Italian.

Still, indeed, we can call them what we like, so Sauriaianians ftw :)

Cevap: how was it tough?!? Latin is one of the easiest languages out there. Tiny vocabulary and almost ironclad regularity of grammar. And it makes learning any other European language that much easier, especially French / Spanish / Italian, but also German and English. It should still be taught in schools. Reading Caesar's "Gallic Wars" in Latin is great.

Cthol, you might be onto something regarding Saurianians. I think Sauraii is what the Slann named it as they invoked the languages of our world through a magical ritual involving hallucinogens and circular leaping. I.e. Sauros. Your post belongs in the thread though.

cthol I've read a fair few number of posts on this site, which (myself potentially as well) clearly has some Geeks that frequently visit.

I think I can safely say that your contributions to this thread take the biscuit.... Well Done Sir! :D
