Snipers Roasted in 3-4 loss to skaven rivals
http://www.fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=match&id=2671052

Something was not quite right at the Warp Den in Snipers' Alley where the post-match festivites were held after the Die Hard Snipers lost 3-4 to the Riverbank Roasters. From one point of view, things were good, the giveaway of free tankards of "Stay Thirsty" Dwarven lager had resulted in triple normal takings over the bar as patrons proceeded to get drunk, deaths from bar-fights were minimal (at most only ten died), and the match gate, 51,000, had been by far the biggest Snipers' match yet. But nothing could mask the fact that the Sniper fans were starting to ask questions, particularly of their coach. As one inquirer put it, it's not so much that we keep losing against rival teams, but that we're constantly getting bashed to oblivion. As another disgruntled fan put it "The Snipers couldn't win a brawl against 'Flings!"

And indeed, the undermanned Snipers have been limping from one match to the next.
Not since the first round have they been able to field 11 players, and against any team other than another Skaven team, they've not started the second half with more than 6 players. If that wasn't damning enough, 4 of 7 of their games had finished with only 3 players left on the field.

Coach Brewin declined to be interviewed at this stage, citing a "busy schedule". One wonders how long he can ignore his critics though... and how long he can keep his team together. The suspicion of this reporter is that Brewin is in fact diverting funds to his main Skaven team "The Dirty Ratboys" due to take the field soon in the augural BBQL season. Information on this team has been hard to come by, including logos and uniforms, but the players are rumoured to be drawn from the Snipers line up. If this was true, it seems hard to see how the "Die-Hard Snipers" could continue remain viable as a separate team anyway after the current season.

MATCH REPORT:

FIRST QUARTER: Snipers 0 - Roasters 1
Roasters received and Blaise Blanche blitzed Snipers' defense, killing Abe (who was apothecaried back due to his kick skills). A scrappy first quarter ensued with the ball deep in Snipers' defense and dropped often as Snipers scrambled to defend... after 4 turns Roasters scored.

SECOND QUARTER: Snipers 0 - Roasters 2
Snipers receive and Dartsy gets to within 1 square of a td, before knocked down by Sid Scorch who caught the spilling ball. In a Teacup ran down to assist Dartsy, but strayed too close to the side lines and was In a Hospital with a broken jaw instead and will miss the next game. The Snipers defense wiltered to 5 players versus eleven and Barry Boil went on to score 2-0 for the Roasters just before half time.

THIRD QUARTER: Snipers 2 - Roasters 3
8 Snipers took the field against a full Roachers line up (incidently the first time since Round 1 they'd started the second half with more than 6 players on the field). Courtesy of a Snipers' quick snap, Dartsy was able to score in a single turn.

Basil received the ball for the Roachers and held it deep. He almost turned over the ball when he was blitzed by two Gutter Runners, but managed to hold on. Then Basil dodged to clear space and threw the ball past the scrimmage to Reg Roast, who was unmarked and in scoring range. Reg caught the ball and promptly scored to put the Roasters ahead 1-3.

In response, the Snipers got the ball to Dartsy who was shepherded
down the sideline by Vermin' and Cylde, for another
touchdown.

FOURTH QUARTER: Snipers 3 - Roasters 4
Still down 8 players to 11, Graeme Grill caused an immediate turn over, going down with his target, Wilbur on the line of scrimmage. Sensing a ray of hope from Nuffle, Vermin' blitzed a gap in the Roasters defense for Cheeky to run in a seize the unsecured ball. Cheeky was lucky not to be brought down by Blitzer Baz B. Que and Basil, and scored for the Snipers to tie the score at 3 all.

The Roasters received and despite Basil again coming under pressue from two gutter runners that dodged through the Roasters' line, again managed to clear the ball to an unmarked runner, Barry, who immediately scored to win the game for the Roasters.
