Season 4 is almost at an end. At least for Averheim and its
River Bandits. Almost... One final step to take. And its a big one.
Let's start with some history lessons: Back in season 2, when Bandit Ball was invented in the beautiful city of Averheim, there was a big dispute with the
Buccaneers out of Brionne. In short, it was all about the usage of this flag as the team's logo:
River Bandits lost that dispute and had to go with Good Ol' Bucco Bruce, but the feud only just began that time.
Now, with another 2 seasons in the books, it will be the first time these two teams clash in what is called the
Capture The Flag - Bowl
Time for us to light up some funny coincidences with RL (both NFL and Blood Bowl):
Nobody will really be surprised, at least after watching at the team bios linked above, that both teams have their roots in the real life Tampa Bay based NFL franchise: the Buccaneers.
I decided back in the days to call them River Bandits instead of Buccaneers, as I thought that would be a more appropriate term for inland-pirates. It is pure coincidence - and I myself got to know of the fact only recently - that although there already was a NFL franchise in Tampa Bay, there has been another famous and successful football franchise in the city: The Tampa Bay Bandits of the short-lifed (and Trump-ruined) USFL.
More facts were digged out about those Bandits, and guess what: They were named after a movie character very popular at that time: The Bandit of the "Smokey and the Bandit" - series (in German: Ein ausgekochtes Schlitzohr), starring Burt Reynolds. Again pure coincidence, but in my local TT Blood Bowl League, the
Hive-BBL in Cologne, I coach a Skaven-team called Smokey and the Bandits (after the movie series), where the Rat Ogre is called Smokey, and the other rats qualify for the Bandits part.
Which brings me to another point. If you look at the Buccs team page, they name a lot of cool songs to be their songs. It was time for my River Bandits to equalize in that field. So I was looking around for something Bandit-like and came across
Bandit Ball
A Song sung by Jerry Reed. I bet all of you who weren't too stoned in the 80's know Jerry Reed from a movie, that was mentioned no too long long ago in a blog post... in this blog post... Smokey and the Bandit! With Burt Reynolds... and Jerry Reed!!!
Did I mention that the actor Burt Reynolds was a co-owner of the USFL-Bandits? And did I mention that Jerry Reed and Burt Reynolds were not only big buddies on cinema screens but also in RL. Such big buddies that it was a no-brainer for Reed to write and sing the stadium-anthem of the Bandits. Which is now the stadium-anthem of the River Bandits as well.
For those of you who haven't yet, enjoy:
Bandit Ball
This song will be played (well, linked in the game chat) every time the River Bandits will score (TD- or Blood-wise) against the Brionne Buccaneers, when both teams meet this Wednesday at 2100 fumbbl time to close out season 4 regular season in what is called "CAPTURE THE FLAG - Bowl". A real must-watch for any fan of DLE. Even more, as this is an once-in-four-seasons match-up (at least in regular season). And who knows what Trump does to DLE before these other four seasons have passed by.

Once again: Enjoy.
