Montfort Pythons Open Steelbowl
So the NAF tournament Steelbowl kicked off this week and I decided to take Bretonnians as I love the roster and obviously getting to play them is limited due to them not being in Ranked or Blackbox. Plus the fact they are getting squatted in BB2020 saw this as a final hurrah. So without further ado say hello to the Montfort Pythons!

The team is lead by King Arthur on his quest for the Grail (NAF trophy) and contains the Black Knight and a Knight who says Ni but the highlight has to be the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog whose mighty blow causes enemies to flee in terror.

So with the team set we get to our first game:

Match Report

We were drawn against a Khorne team which is a race I don't actually think I've ever played against coached by the lovely and massively experienced Stimme who also happens to be one of the admin team for this fantastic event! The game was also chosen as the Opening Match of the Steelbowl so no pressure then...

The first half was a cagey affair literally as the Khornes received and caged up. Tim the Enchanter was pushed around the LOS but other than that not much happened. We managed to stun the Bloodthirster with a foul but it cost us a banned peasant. Each team took pot shots at each other and a few Brets left the field which eventually gave an opening in our defence which was expertly exploited by Stimme to get up the field and secure the score. The Killer Rabbit seemed to just want to stroke his opponents which was rather annoying. The Khorne set up a one turner defence which meant Bo couldn't do his magic and we went into half time down a TD.

Second half we received and got down to a good start with the Black Knight badly hurting a Khorne lineman and Bo collecting the ball. We also managed to get a few KO's going and we managed to use our high mv to switch the bowl from side to side and eventually managed to screen off and tie up the Khornish defence but it cost us as a Boodletter finally got Tim the Enchanter down and broke his jaw while the Bloodthirster ripped John le Cleese too shreds... Definitely not just a flesh wound, he is an ex Yeoman. With this Stimme managed to apply enough pressure to force Bo to run it in and score turn 6.

We adopted a fairly high risk defence as a few enemy KO's stayed out and we went for the win rushing Bo and Blitzers forward. Khorne went for the win too pushing down the field and annoyingly picking up and caging up. Our final turn saw us mark up the receivers while Brian blocked and fractured the insanely well behaved Bloodthirster's arm and it failed it's regen!! He's not the messiah, he's just an absolute badass. This opened up a -2d on the ball carrier who we blitzed and knocked down. We needed the ball to bounce towards the enemy endzone so Bo could have a chance to score but it bounced back into the cage and a peasant tried to pick up but failed.

However, this meant we had tackle zones on the ball which forced a dodge from the Khorne's who failed ending the game 1-1.

The game deserved to be a draw, had we managed to score the second it would have been a sickening and undeserved victory. Stimme was a wonderful opponent and I enjoyed the game massively and it was a brilliant display. We also discussed the weirdness of deamons without regen on the Khorne roster which bemused us both. The game itself was a very tame affair from both of us in terms of blood, we were looking for some Khorne bad block dice for some turnovers but they just kept rolling pushes which helped keep us alive but we needed a failure which didn't come. We also needed our Killer Rabbit to do more damage and our fouls (6 of them) were all super super weak but so were the Khorne blocks! I would have loved a dirty player peasant but unfortunately the spending limits didn't allow it.

However, with the game over we each got 2 points and had equal CAS (2-2) and so the league table ranked us based on coach prettiness which saw me ranked top of the whole table! Many people called for the Count To Stop and for the league to finish but as a noble and humble coach I rejected their calls and demanded the games to go on.

Onwards the Pythons march, coconuts clacking!

Managed to catch most of the second half of this match and there was some great back and forth action. I was surprised to see the Thirster drop. Brian must've heard the chanting from the crowd (or the cloud?!), "Get on with it"!
