Captain's Orders
Captain's Orders
There was a chill in the air as Captain Arndale set out from his ship that night. Arndale didn't like to leave his crew alone but sometimes there were things that were for only him to know. He couldn't even trust his first mate 'Iron-Chest' Newbury with this one.
His ship, The Reel Booty, was docked at the port of L'Anguille and had been stationed here for the last few days. Although the pirates didn't like to anchor at ports in the Empire this time they had to make an exception.
L'Anguille, known for its huge fire tower that protects passing ships from the rocks of the coast, like all Empire towns had some good citizens and some bad. Arndale had never met his contact here before but the message he had received was something he simply could not ignore. Earlier this week a seagull had landed on the deck with a note tied to his foot that read:
The Arndale Captain leads them now,
but some of us we wonder how.
The name we heard is not the same.
What is inside you cannot tame.

The crew had simply laughed at the joke. Some of them even pretended to read the message first. However, The Captain knew its true meaning and the message in the numbers below.
Back in L'Anguille it was 2am. The streets were dark and all that could be heard was the sea breeze and the waves crashing against the side of his ship. The Captain silently dropped from the window of The Reel Booty and quickly dodged into the streets of the residential district.
He had been here many times before and knew where he was going like he was still on board his ship. Sprinting up an alleyway to the right he jumped into a silent doorway to the side and dodged behind a wall. Left and right he turned running up passages you wouldn't even notice were there until he found what he came for.
A great black door stood before him. So large it was impossible to imagine who would need something like this. Just below the door handle was a silver dial shaped like a compass but with numbers instead of directions. Arndale pulled the scrap of paper from his pocket and entered the sequence: 84563.
As if moved by a magical force the door swung open and The Captain could see the darkness within, so black and endless it felt as though it was trying to leak out of the room through the now open doorway.
Then he saw it. Tendrils of shadow moved around either side of the door-frame and reached out for him. Suddenly the world went black and Arndale was plunged into darkness more pure than anything he had ever known.

The next morning back on The Reel Booty the crew began to wake up. It was to be a great day. Today they were going to play The Dwarven Outcasts a famous team of chaos filled dwarfs who only played the bravest teams out there. The crew loved causing chaos so this was a dream come true for them!
Little did they know that The Captain had only organised this match as a cover to allow him to continue his business in L'Anguille undisturbed. The Outcasts had simply showed up in the town at the same time The Pirates of Bogswash had arrived. At the time Arndale had thought he had just got lucky but was there something more going on?
So the match began and the crowd went wild. Weapons galore and fouls aplenty drove them into a Blood Bowl frenzy and both teams were loving it. It looked like a riot was brewing.
Little George the Bogwash star giant looked at the maddened faces in the crowd and smiled with glee. Then he looked at the faces of The Dwarven Outcasts, there was no emotion, no fear, no joy and no soul. He started into their dark eyes and despite his dim-witted mind even he knew something was not right.

Arndale awoke on the deck of his ship surrounded by his crew. He knew time had passed but he didn't know how long. Looking at faces of his crew as they awoke from their sleeps they all started at hear with true fear in their eyes.
Did they play a BloodBowl game or enter a slaughterhouse? Was the darkness real or not?
All they knew was that Jumping Jimmy was no there with them and their superstar 'elf' crewmate Broderick Greenbeard vanished into thin air that day.
Although none of the crew remembered what had truly happened during that fearful match, Little George knew! He had felt the gates of Hell open before him and the endless darkness pull him in. Had it not been for the latent regeneration magic in his giant bones he may have suffered the same fate as Jimmy and Broderick.
Regardless of what they had seen The Pirates of Bogswash would fight on and no foe would ever know the fear they had all felt that day. Never again would they enter the BloodBowl pitch without their Captain!

Arndale displaying why he's captain.
He bunks off matches vs tough teams, and his spp record, 1 mvp award and nowt else from 32 games, shows that he truly leads from the back.

Well come on, a captain of a bunch of rabble rousing pirates is clearly a respected figure by the crew... but you don't stay Captaining a ship for long by mucking in with the oars or getting involved in needless scuffles :P
