Whilst I recognise an individual's freedom to have and to hold their own opinion, I do not recognise their right to express it freely, if by doing so they impinge upon somebody else's freedom from oppression.

For example, if I went through my local pedestrianised town centre shouting loudly about how I wanted to eat all of the children and shoot all of the black people, I would hope that I would be very quickly arrested. My freedom of opinion does not allow me to freely express it because in doing so I would cause fear and panic, offense and irritation.

A civilised culture has sensible limits on what may or may not be broadcasted publically. If you wish to discuss racist views then you do so privately. If you wish to swear loudly then you do it away from children's schools.

Whilst speccing a game on fumbbl I (and I think many like me) would not like to be abused by either a mystery spec or by an imposter. Likewise I would not want the chat spammed by idiots using their extensive knowledge of the copy-and-paste function. I would also not put up with racism and I would demand that something was done about it.

Rules on language or the use of language need not create an atmosphere of fear or a lack of freedom of expression. Sensible censorship merely creates a workable and civilised forum for intelligent discourse to take place.
