Nehru (
http://fumbbl.com/p/player?player_id=11354032) is
Rogue Industry's
(RI) captain, star blitzer, ball carrier and longest serving player. He’s played in 68 of their total 72 games has scored just over one third (39) of
RI's 113 total touchdowns.
As a particularly strong elf with a safe pair of hands, skilled in blocking and dodging
Nehru, tends to hog the ball. He’s been on the cusp of achieving
Legend status for a while, but neither he, his team, or coach have being doing so well lately, and it seemed like maybe the glory days were over.
Things changed last game, a the
Lustria Challenge Qualifier final, with a unique outcome that could not been in almost any other situation.
RI faced off against
Hashuut Fanatics a formidable force led by
Cedric19, a fumbbl
Legend in his own right, and with an impressive list of accolades including
Warpstone Open XII and
XFL IX Chaos Dwarves Champions.
RI received in the first half, with
Nehru running with the ball as usual, but unable to reach the endzone before being knocked over, forcing a scramble for the ball.
RI managed to recover possession with the witch
AWS grabbing the ball and finding the endzone, cementing her own Star Player status. But
Nehru was hit with a
ferocious block just before the
touchdown and the halftime whistle, causing such severe
nerve damage that he was stretchered off the pitch and is unlikely to play again for a while.
RI managed to retain their lead through a tough second half, with only
two players remaining on the pitch by the final whistle, scoring one of the side's most hard fought victories.
With
Nehru not around for the next game, and several players close to promotion, tactical considerations ruled him out of the running for a valuable MVP award. Having failed to secure any achievements of note on the field itself, it seemed
Legend status would have to wait at least another couple of games.
But something strange happened in the post-match debrief. Without getting the nod from the coach,
Nehru was awarded an
MVP anyway! At first there was confusion. Had Nehru been selected him in error, maybe from force of habit? Not so, as
Aldi the guarding lineman had already collected his MVP. Turns out qualifying for the
Lustria Challenge is rewarded with an extra
MVP, which
Nehru received, cementing his status as a
Legend!
He’ll miss the first game due to injury, but the
LC is a unique major without a
KO system, guaranteeing
4 matches for the 16 qualifying teams. Come what may,
Nehru, will take the field. It may be on the bench in the first instance, but Nehru,
Rogue Industry’s first and only
Legend, has arrived in
Lustria!
