The official Triple POW! Magazine staff league started last night. Hurrah! It was... interesting. Hurrah?
A quick backgrounder on how the league works: the four of us -- myself, aerofool, ravyn and legionsrealm -- went through four rounds of drafting teams from the standard list. This gave us each a stable of four teams to pick from for our first season. I opted to use Wood Elves to go up against the Orcs, Skaven and Necromantic teams -- we'll see how that turns out.
Game 1: vs. Orcs (aerofool). This could've easily been a blowout, had I not made some major goofs.
First, I botched an early touchdown by tripping over the goal line on a double-GFI. Then I botched the follow-up to that attempt by blitzing with my Catcher -- they look similar to Wardancers! Newbie mistake! -- and being knocked down on an unexpected two-die-against block.
Later in the game, up 1-0 on an excellent counter-rush to a huge screen, I manage to weasel the ball free from a scrum and park near my own end zone with a Wardancer to buy some time. Big mistake -- I get pushed into a corner and my Wardancer botches the Leap. (This was a recurring theme all night; is "Landing Gear" an acceptable General skill?) Lineorc picks up the ball, waddles in, 1-1. Draw!

Aerofool and I blew off steam with an Academy match (my Orcs vs. his Undead) and, to put it lightly, Nuffle decided aerofool was going to lose. He dropped more skulls than a clumsy archaeologist, leading to a 3-0 (!!) blowout. On the upside, he did kill Skullsplitta (Black Orc Blocker), leaving me with 10 players for the next match.

Can't wait for my next match, be it League or Academy! Leave me a PM if you're interested in a game.
