This blog is about why I max out on re-rolls on any team that I start. Maybe this is just the influence of coaching alot of vampires but I like re-rolls lots.
Lets look at the obvious reason. Re-rolls are set to double the price after the team is started. This means that your team will grow in a pleasingly fast way if you start with re-rolls rather than buying them. The quickest way to get a set of both positionals and re-rolls is to start with the rerolls.
Positionals tend to hog all the SPPs. Face it, a team with a solid core of linemen is probably a better team than one with a couple of cool blitzers. There are exceptions but it is much easier to skill up linemen if you have to use them for important plays (initially).
Players die. Face it, a properly coached team that plays against a balanced array of opponents (coached by decent coaches) will have a reasonable number of their players dying off of being injured into retirement. Re-rolls dont die so I find it easier to recover a team that has re-rolls. If you take positionals then the players that die are more expensive, if you take linemen and re-rolls then your lost players tend to be cheap.
Coaching a team consisting mostly of linemen (I nearly always buy a thrower) is tricky or at least different. If you can get some practice at it then you can gain/develope some valuable skills. Having these sort of skills is invaluable across all the teams you coach and knowing how to cope with few skilled players (or a disadvantaged team) is important if you ever find yourself in a tricky situation.
I think that you are better enduring some initial difficulty (especially if you can still win) if it helps build a stronger, more durable team quickly.
