Chad Norris:
Good evening, folks, and welcome back to Cabalvision's NWBL Redraft Special, where we cover each team's contracts. We previously covered the Heartless Midlothians FC, and there were predictions from pundits that Davanandro And
https://fumbbl.com/p/player?player_id=16206272 was on the chopping block. After a whirlwind of speculation and uncertainty, the club has decided to re-sign And for one more season. And, known for his unconventional fouling bruiser role in the club, had the front office on the fence for months. Let’s be honest, folks, his skill set doesn’t exactly fit the mold.
Now, if you recall, And spent much of the off-season working on his own, developing that signature move— the drive by "casual stomp" sidestep foul, nearly invisible to refs. The team didn't believe in it, but after signing no less than 3 merch deals with punk style outfits and starting a line of t-shirts with his self styled "death elf" logo, the club owners couldn't ignore the influx of cash. It wasn’t textbook, but it was effective.
We asked coach Oryx Wild what he and the rest of the Midlothians' management team have to say about the re-signing of And's contract.
Oryx:
"Look, I'll be quite candid with you. He's a good kid, he works hard, and that's why we're keeping him. He's got the heart for the game. Does he have the talent to pull it off? He did line duty twice, fouled twice and was ejected in game 7 against Omaha. That's line elf stuff, why is my star blitzer getting sent off for fouling?
I'm not one to tell anyone how to live their life, but the reality of the business is that when you sign on to the club, you know that you're going to have to play for the team. The team has a need for a certain playstyle - if you're here to be a snowflake, you'd better start a blizzard because it wasn't a stellar season performance.
3 of 4 touchdowns are in games where we shut them out 4-0 and 5-1. Like I appreciate the stat boost but that's not what I need him for, I need him to perform in games like our loss to Kids in the Hall and the tie to Otter Chaos.
Now having said that, it wasn't bad either. He's been in every game, no injuries, works hard and plays good football. Just has some kinda weird fascination with turning the club into the death elves or some such new agey hullabaloo.
Anyway, he spent a lot of time in the off season perfecting the sidestep kick, and it's pretty undetectable. We'll give him one more season to prove he can carry games and get the crowd's attention at the same time, but salaries aren't going down and I *could* be training a rookie this season. Best of luck to ya, kid - you're gonna need it."
Chad Norris:
Frankly I've never heard of an elven blitzer that fouls, never mind one that piles on after a blitz. What is this, the WWF? I'm amazed that management offered him as much as they did, and there's no way that this is good football. How are you going to win games with a huge chunk of your team warming the penalty box every game? Or are you paying him 30% extra - eating into your cap - for nothing?
I've asked for the opinion of the esteemed sports analyst, Viktor Von Karken. Viktor, what do you think? Star in the making, or critical fumble for Midlothians FC?
Viktor:
"There's no doubt that this is bad football, my friend, but coach Oryx is no fool. He may not have gotten what he wanted, but he knew what he was getting into when And had a 'sudden training inspiration.' I think this decision has less to do with And's unconventional choices and more about timing. Training rookies is the pits, and the Midlothians already have several catchers that need some serious practice hours. And may have some unusual specialties, but he provides all the power and flexibility that pro elf blitzers are known for in a division that is a bit light on tackle.
Don't forget those games where taking out 1 or 2 players can radically change the calculus. And will have his chance to prove his value, and the man's a surgical knife. He can get anywhere, and he has no fear. The real question is - can he pull through, or will he end up holding his head in the penalty box? It should be an exciting season!"
Chad Norris:
Some good points Viktor, and thanks for joining us today on Cabalvision's NWBL Redraft Special. This is Chad Norris, signing off. Good night.
