The Low City in Erengrad has been engulfed in rioting for several days, and authorities have still to retake control of the streets surrounding the Low City Cannoneers’ Compound, next to the stadium where Erengrad hosts its games of Blood Bowl, and home to the massivly popular Erengrad Vikings. For some time there was a fear that rioters would be able to seize the armaments found in the compound, but the guards and the good standing with Vikings’ fans seemed to have saved them.
Rioting started even before the end whistle had blown in the game vs Doomkeep Manticores when it became clear that the block that brought down Aline Danford had also ended her life beyond saving. A shaken Vikings failed in their offensive drive and when Manticores walked in 2-0 to end the game things turned from bad to worse. Fights broke out with visiting fans, but in many cases people seemed to just be fighting anyone they found near themselves.
At least one enraged fan fought their way into the changing rooms of the Manticores shortly after the game ended. The details of what occurred there are vague, and the entire Doomkeep company departed in haste, but coming out the other end of the stadium the star ogre Barry Gryson seemingly had another spray of human blood across his hands and torso.
The reason for the rioting remains clear, Aline Danford, who was perhaps the single most adored person in all of Erengrad, if not all of Kislev, is held by many to be the greatest captain the Vikings have ever had. Under her leadership for the past five seasons the team has shown again and again how to build success over a season, winning the division four out five times, as well as getting the elusive conference number 1, and just last season, the overall DLE first spot after the regular season. After this last tremendous achievment Danford’s popularity had risen from already big heights into something like a frenzied devotion among many. Her fan club, the members of which still lay waste to parts of the city, has ballooned into staggering proportions, with reports saying that even foreign city fan clubs had grown considerably, with an especially large following in Carroburg. If any of those fan clubs will resort to violence upon hearing the news is yet to be seen.
To add further controversy, Danny Vitale is named new team captain. A former Manticores player, known for his vicious streak and for somehow getting named Most Valuable Player on several occasions despite doing next to nothing, he strikes fear into team mates and opponents alike. He will sit out his first game as captain after a serious blow, but rumors are already swirling about what may or may not have been in the dealings with his former team in town.
A new chapter begins for Erengrad Vikings. What will happen next?
