Originally formed as part of an inter-Temple league between monstaries and temples devoted to Khaine, the God of Murder, the Red Wings of old (whose name is taken from the bloodied wings of what is claimed to be a slain angel hanging in the main courtyard of the Eornin monestary) were little more than temple savages, more devoted to killing then playing the game, or ever touching the ball. However, after the anarchy of the first (and last) inter-temple tournament (people did question the sense of having a competition of any kind between fanatical cultists of the god of murder), the Red Wings emerged as soul survivors and therefore default champions of the league. Since that time, the Red Wings have moulded themselves in to the classic fast-attack Dark Elven team, with players now equally skilled in killing and ball handling. While they don't practice a great deal as a team, they do participate in a lot of blood sacrifices in the hope to attract Khaine's watchful eye to their cause. So far that hasn't had a great deal of success, but the team's Priests say that its just a matter of time, and body count. |
