Spiteful Acts?
In response to Azure's Blog 'Spiteful Acts'.

In one game, some pro elves were playing a chaos team and the pro elves had some leapers and just constantly trashed the chaos caging efforts and were up 4-0 by early in the second half. The chaos player had several dirty players and stated - well no point in fouling. Fouling is not going to change the outcome of the game - so why just try to hurt the other team out of spite? An interesting prespective that is not shared in other games.

First off, the Pro Elves are obviously full of stats that allow them to handle the ball and score with relative ease, like most Elven teams. And the Chaos are full of stats that allow them to kill stuff, like most Chaos teams.

Now you can switch the stats up on either side to allow better scoring or bashing. Obviously the Elves have the agility and easier access to scoring skills in their favor and the Chaos have Strength and easier access to bashing skills in their favor.

So now we get to the game in question. The Elves are winning 4-0. Not surprising, as the Chaos in question are not capable (without rolling lot's of doubles) of stopping them without injuring or having a string of lucky rolls. Sure with a lot of POW's or clever plays, they could do alright. But let's face it in most cases the Elves will win unless the Chaos bash them into oblivion.

So why is it any surprise the Chaos would want to injure the Elves? That's what they do. If you're losing a game 0-4 and are unable to do anything but allow your opponent to score, would you not want to use your team for what they really are there for? This isn't a vengeful Wood Elf team getting a spanking by another Elf team. This is a hungry, nasty Chaos team that the Elven coach knowingly challenged/was challenged and accepted. Why is anyone surprised by this?

just wonder - what is the reason for the spiteful acts? Extra blocks to get CAS - those make sense. Fouling for a second CAS to help the FF roll - sure that is justification. However - if an action brings no benefit to your team, there must be some other utility that a person gets from doing it. Do people honestly get satisfication out of the crunching sound? Satisfication out of hurting or maiming another person's team?

Do people honestly get satisfaction from scoring a TD? This is just a game. People play it for different reasons, why can't you respect the fact people enjoy fouling and/or killing players? What upsets you so much about this? "Oh noes, my pixels just died. I will not sleep tonight. "

On the flip side of the coin, what about the Elven coach up by 4-0? Do you think his opponent is having fun? Clearly only one person is having 'fun' here. Yeah yeah, I'm sure there are some people that don't mind and will even say they enjoy losing that badly. But c'mon, the average person would be a little upset. Fouling is as much part of this game as scoring, so get used to it.

This isn't Tennis, this is a game in which the name of it starts with "Blood".
